Thimmendorf is a small village on the eastern edge of the Thuringian Forest , north of Bad Lobenstein with 219 inhabitants (as of 2017) and is part of the municipality of Remptendorf in the Saale-Orla district . Thimmendorf is the second highest place in the municipality of Remptendorf. It is located on the L 1100 road.
geography
The place Thimmendorf is a little off the beaten track between the Bleilochtalsperre in the east, the Sormitztal in the west and the Hohenwarte reservoir in the north. The district of the place is shown with an area of 855 ha. The corridor is surrounded by forests of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains. The highest elevations around the place are the Roßbühl with 647 m above sea level. NN and the Espig with 633 m above sea level. NN.
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1318 and belonged to the Principality of Reuss-Lobenstein ("Herrschaft Lobenstein ") and since the revolution of 1848 to the Principality of Reuss Younger Line ( District Office Schleiz ). The name was spelled differently over time from Timmendorf to Thiemendorf to Thymmendorf. From 1784 Thimmendorf had market rights and cattle markets were held regularly until the Second World War.
The current church was built in 1677 after the previous building burned down in 1676.
During the time of the GDR, Thimmendorf was part of the Lobenstein district in the Gera district . After 1990, it was a member of the Saale-Sormitz-Höhen administrative community until it was incorporated into the district reform in Thuringia on July 1, 1999. Since then, it has been a part of the Remptendorf community .

The local coat of arms shows a cattle striding on green ground in front of a deep blue background and thus points to the cattle breeding that has always flourished here and the well-stocked cattle markets that were previously known.
economy
Various craft businesses are based in the village. The largest companies are the Pauli Kunststofffabrik, the TBE Thimmendorfer Bioenergie GmbH and the John Deere workshop with warehouses of the Agrargenossenschaft Hochland eG. There is also a grinding shop and a carpenter in the village.
