Elite series (chess) 2013/14
The 2013/14 elite series was the eighth season of the Norwegian elite series in chess .
The Norwegian team champion was the Oslo Schakselskap for the fifth time in a row . Vålerenga Sjakklubb and SK 96 Bergen rose from the 1st divisjon last year . While Vålerenga achieved relegation, the SK 96 would have been relegated in purely sporting terms together with the Moss Schakklub . However, since Vålerenga used an ineligible player against the SK 96, Vålerenga's 4-2 win at the green table was converted into a 3-2 win for the SK 96, and the SK 96 could still leave SOSS Selvaagbygg behind. SOSS Selvaagbygg also had to accept a point deduction because of the use of a player who was not eligible to play, but this was not relevant for the relegation question. However, since the elite series was increased to twelve teams for the 2014/15 season , SOSS Selvaagbygg was spared relegation. Originally the Black Knights Oslo were also punished with a point deduction for the same offense, but this decision was later revoked. For the reported team squads of the participating clubs, see team squad of the Eliteserien (chess) 2013/14 .
Game dates
The competitions took place on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2013, January 10th, 11th and 12th, March 21st, 22nd and 23rd, 2014. All competitions were held centrally in Oslo .
Season course
The Oslo Schakselskap afforded while in the second round a surprising defeat to newcomer Vålerenga Sjakklubb , but won all other races and was two points ahead again champion. The relegation battle seemed to have been decided before the last round, as the SK 96 Bergen and the Moss Schakklub had so far only reached one draw and were four points away from the saving eighth place. Due to the change in the result mentioned, however, it turned out that the SK 96 overtook SOSS Selvaagbygg with its win against Moss . By increasing the league to twelve teams, however, Moss was the only relegated.
