Ellen Schmidt (production designer)

Ellen Schmidt (born March 13, 1922 in Gelsenkirchen , † March 12, 1997 in Hamburg ) was a German set designer .

She studied architecture, specializing in building construction, and graduated with an engineering degree. One of her early assignments was to rebuild the Thalia Theater in Hamburg . Shortly afterwards she married the film architect Mathias Matthies .

Together with her husband, she designed the equipment for numerous film productions in the 1950s and 1960s. In the Studio Hamburg she was also often work for television since the 1960s.
