The Stechlin is a three-part television series from 1975 that was produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). It is based on the novel of the same name by Theodor Fontane . The film was a great success when it first aired on March 28, 1975.

The multi-part series, which is produced close to Fontane's classic, is about the life of the fictional aristocrat Dubslav von Stechlin ( Arno Assmann ), whose modest mansion, also known as Stechlin Castle , is located on the actually existing Stechlinsee in the Ruppin district. The original novel - Fontane himself summed up the content succinctly in the sentence: In the end, an old man dies and two boys get married - is about the end of the life of the widowed old Junker and the new one that was continued by the marriage of his only son Woldemar Life. At the same time as the life of the “old” comes the “old days” to an end. Woldemar already embodied “the new” at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
