Elling is a place in the Danish Frederikshavn municipality , region Nordjylland . It has 1178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and was mentioned in writing as early as the 12th century.

At the beginning of the 13th century the place got a church, the Elling Kirke . Elling lies in the parish of Elling Sogn , other localities are Jerup , Nielstrup , Strandby and Øster Holmen as well as the holiday areas Bratten Strand and Napstjert .

Through the municipal reform in 1970 Elling was assigned to the municipality of Frederikshavn.

From 1890 to 1924 Elling had a station on the narrow-gauge Frederikshavn – Skagen line . With the conversion of the line to standard gauge , the route was changed and the station was closed.
