The Beibächlein , called Elmgraben on the upper and middle runners , is an approximately 4 km long right tributary of the Altmühlüberleiters near Gunzenhausen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . Before the construction of the Brombachsee and the overpass in the 1970s / 1980s, the brook flowed directly into the Brombach , a tributary of the Swabian Rezat, not far from Neuherberg and Hühnermühle .

The stream rises under the name Elmgraben at an altitude of 466  m above sea level. NN south of the Gunzenhausen village of Frickenfelden and near the European main watershed . Here it arises just to the east on the road to Oberasbach on the edge of the Haselbuck forest area . In an open corridor, it first flows east, then north-east, and enters the Graefensteinberg forest at the municipal boundary between Gunzenhausen and Pfofeld . From there it usually moves close to the municipal boundary between Pfofeld and Haundorf . It soon passes under the state road St 2222 from Gunzenhausen to Pleinfeld and the parallel Gunzenhausen – Pleinfeld railway line . In the area of ​​the municipality of Pfofeld, it feeds the Ödweiher , which it leaves as a little beibach. At an altitude of 413  m above sea level. NN it flows into the Altmühlüberleiter in the area of ​​the Haundorf municipality just north of the WUG 20 district road .

The Elmgraben section accounts for about 2.9 kilometers of the 4.2 km long stream. With an average bottom gradient of about 13 per thousand, it flows out about 53 meters below its source level. The catchment area has an area of ​​about 2.7 square kilometers.
