It was also Sacconi, who Taliani on 16 May 1869 his personal assistant to the Apostolic Nunciature in Munich sent where Taliani, only a year later, in 1870 the chargé d'affaires was promoted. After four years in Bavaria , Taliani moved to the Nunciature in Paris as a consultant from Cardinal Sacconi , where he worked between 1875 and 1879.

At the beginning of 1880 Taliani entered the service of the Curia and on March 17 of the same year was appointed prelate at the signature , the Supreme Court of the Vatican City . Taliani's participation in the subsequent conclave , in which Pope Pius X was elected, was not entirely undisputed, as Taliani was only cardinal on paper, but had not yet received the biretta or the cardinal ring. These insignia of the cardinal status were only given to him, like the six other clergymen, Leo XIII. had determined before his death, presented on November 12, 1903 by Pius X. At the same time the new cardinal priest was given the titular church of San Bernardo alle Terme .
