Emil-Andresen-Strasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Emil-Andresen-Straße is a street in the Hamburg district of Lokstedt in Eimsbüttel district . It was named in 1949 after the captain of the Landwehr, Emil Andresen, who was head of the Lokstedt community for a while around 1913 . It has a length of 1091 meters and is located between Julius-Vosseler- Strasse and Grandweg .

Medial awareness

The street gained notoriety through a citizens' initiative of the local residents for the preservation of 30 Norway maple trees in 2010. The satirical program " Extra 3 " reported on the formally undeveloped street. Since there are almost 3000 streets like Emil-Andresen-Strasse in Hamburg alone, it attracted a lot of attention that 90% of the 1.6 million euro road renovation had to be taken over by the residents, which corresponds to several thousand euros per resident.

The residents' initiative was able to prevent the trees from being felled. Over 8,000 signatures were collected, although only 5719 would have been required. The chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Eimsbüttel, Rüdiger Rust, described the history of Emil-Andresen-Strasse as an “example of how citizens can successfully contribute their interests”. In addition to preserving the trees, a speed limit of 30 km / h was retained, which would have been increased to 50 km / h had it been expanded.

Night of the trees

In order to promote the citizens' initiative and the preservation of the trees, some residents organized a "Night of the Trees" during which Emil-Andresen-Straße was closed and the light artist Michael Batz illuminated some of the trees in blue. There were also various public readings with celebrities such as author Kirsten Boie , Tagesschaussprecher Thorsten Schröder , author Isabel Abedi , NDR chief television editor Andreas Cichowicz , NDR 2 presenter Jens Mahrhold, the artist Gerd Stange , author Heike Koschyk and the ttt - titel, thesen, temperamente editor Edith Beßling. In addition to the readers, the former daily announcer Marc Bator and the television presenter Susanne Stichler also support the citizens' initiative.
