Emil August von Bernuth (born July 14, 1797 in Kleve ; died April 19, 1882 in Piotrkowice near Czempiń ) was a Prussian district administrator .

Life

The Protestant Emil von Bernuth was a son of the council of the War and Domain Chamber in Kleve , Friedrich von Bernuth and his wife Sophia Charlotte von Bernuth, née Hopmann. On July 16, 1824, he married Luisa Dorothea Emilia von Porbeck in Arnsberg (born January 19, 1799 in Burgsteinfurt ; died December 11, 1881 in Piotrkowice), daughter of the electoral Hessian secret councilor and government vice-president Georg von Porbeck and his wife Elisabeth von Porbeck, born from Zenk. The marriage of Bernuth - von Porbeck had eleven children. Emil's older brother Friedrich was district administrator of the Rees district from 1818 to 1859 .

After attending grammar school, Emil von Bernuth began studying law at the University of Göttingen (matriculation October 21, 1816). After graduating there, he entered the service of the Prussian administration, where he initially found employment as a government referendar (March 23, 1820) with the Royal Prussian Government in Arnsberg . With a general cabinet order of December 22, 1824, Emil von Bernuth received his appointment as district administrator of the Lennep district on January 1, 1825 . He remained in this position until his retirement on July 1, 1866 with Dimissoriale from April 28, 1866. Until the position was filled again, the district deputy Gustav Petersen took over the management of the district's administration.

It was not uncommon for the children of senior officials to be married to members of the "leading families" of the local economy. In a report dated June 1, 1865 about von Bernuth's administration, the same thing was emphasized about his family, but at the same time it was noted that this did not lead to "friendly intercourse". Emil von Bernuth was almost 70 years old when he left his position as district administrator, the officials did not always succeed in voluntarily saying goodbye at the right time, and often pressure from above was required. Bernuth's farewell took place "after the Minister of the Interior considered it desirable and necessary that the administration of the Lennep district should be entrusted to an official in full manhood."
