Emmerich Kerle (born March 27, 1916 in Innsbruck , † August 25, 2010 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and art teacher .

Life

Emmerich Kerle attended the trade school in Innsbruck with Hans Pontiller and studied from 1937 to 1938 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Josef Müllner and from 1939 to 1941 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Josef Wackerle . In 1944 he was employed as a war painter in Finland. After the Second World War he taught as an art teacher at the Academic Gymnasium Innsbruck , the Gymnasium in Stams , the Episcopal Gymnasium Paulinum in Schwaz and at the Bundes-Oberstufenrealgymnasium Innsbruck .

In 1952 he began working as a freelance artist in his sculptor's studio, which was located in the basement of the Guardian Angel Church in Pradel , for whose design he also worked. His works include reliefs, tombs, cribs, sacred and profane sculptures in stone and wood as well as facade designs as part of the art-in-building campaign of the state of Tyrol in the post-war period.
