The Ens (partly Ensbach ) is a left tributary of the Aisch in Bavaria, coming from the southwest .

geography

course

The Ens rises on the European main watershed on the widely wooded Frankenhöhe about two kilometers southwest of the Altmühl origin . It begins its western course a little to the south of the spur approach of the western outflowing Hohen Leite ( 514.3  m above sea level ). It runs around the foot of this spur in a large west arch, crossing twice under the federal motorway 7 , first passing Urphershofen and then separating the Zeugenberg Endseer Berg ( 471.2 m above sea level ) on your  left from the Hohe Leite.

Then it crosses northeastern Steinach an der Ens and flows between Gallmersgarten on the left and Steinach near Rothenburg ob der Tauber on the right bank. At the Hagenmühle of Burgbernheim it flows east, a moment later it runs right in the area of some ponds of Tiefenbach to the north of the High Leite occurs very close to the Altmühl origin; similar to the way the Ens flows around the Hohe Leite, this stream also runs in an arc around the north-west spur of the Schloßberg of the Frankenhöhe. Then the Ens sets course to the northeast to the Burgbergheimer parish village Schwebheim . On this section you first reach the Erlbach from the left in front of the Burgbergheimer Aumühle and then from the right in the area of the wide valley plain of the Breite Wiesen the Sulzbach from Burgbernheim, which arises near the town on the northeast slope of the Schloßberg-Sporn.

Soon afterwards it crosses on the B 13 on the outskirts of Schwebheim with the Ottenbach coming from the left. Like the Erlbach before it, it is also a low-gradient Bacxh from the plain in the west, it rises north of Gallmersgarten- Mörlbach in a small forest. Both streams continue there in two floodplain branches after they have both crossed eastwards under the main road, on the left the Ens continuation Engertsbach runs along the southern edge of the settlement of Burgbernheim-Schwebheim and on the right the Otterbach continuation Ainbach . Both join after about two kilometers just before the north-western edge of Illesheim . The association called Ainbach now only runs about 0.3 km further under the B 470 and then flows from the left into the Aisch, which is only a little more than two kilometers long .

Tributaries

Hierarchical list of the tributaries, each from the source to the mouth. Selection.

Source of the Ens or the Ensbach at about 475  m above sea level. NHN in the Nordenberg forest south of the Hohen Leite about 1.9 km east-southeast of Steinsfeld - Urphershofen . The Ens flows roughly westwards at first and then makes a long right-hand arc of almost 180 ° from Urphershofen, separating the isolated Enseer Berg to the left from the Hohen Leite , the western spur of the northern Frankenhöhe. Only after her bend and lastly passing the DOrf Gallmersgarten did she open her first major tributaries mentioned here.

  • Leutersklingengraben , from the left to about 335  m above sea level. NHN before Burgbernheim - Hagenmühle , 1.8 km
  • Tiefenbach (or Waldbach ), from the right to about 331  m above sea level. NHN after the Hagenmühle, 6.5 km,
    • Hohenleitengraben , from the left to about 416  m above sea level. NHN west of Burgbernheim-Wildbad, 0.6 km
    • Fuchsberggraben , from the right to about 336  m above sea level. NHN west of Burgbernheim, 1.8 km

  • Stream crossing at about 318  m above sea level. NHN on the outskirts of Schwebheim on the B 33 with the Ottenbach coming from the left, which is only 7.0 km long and also has a poorer catchment area ; this stream then continues as the Ainbach to the right of it, while the Ens continues under the name Engertsbach (section length 2.2 km) past the southern edge of Schwebheim.

Mouth the last Engert Bach called Ens from the left and just before Illesheim in the waters off the intersection at Schwebheim Ainbach called Ottenbach sequel. This Ottenbach / Ainbach flows about 0.3 km further on the outskirts of Illesheim from the left into the still relatively short Aisch .
