Erhart Winkler

Erhart Winkler (born April 12, 1921 in Vienna ; † November 22, 2005 ibid) was an Austrian economist and geographer .

Life

Erhart Winkler devoted himself after graduation studying geography at the University of Vienna , which he in 1949 with the promotion of Dr. phil. completed. In the same year he took up a position as assistant to Leopold Scheidl Institute of Geography, University of World Trade in 1959 habilitated himself as a lecturer in the subject Economic Geography . In 1964, Erhart Winkler accepted a position as full professor for economic geography at the St. Gallen Commercial College , where he was also appointed head of the research center for economic geography. In 1971 he returned to Vienna, where he was appointed full professor for economic geography and head of the institute of the same name at the university of economics, succeeding the late Walter Strzygowski . In 1985 he retired . Erhart Winkler died in November 2005 as a result of a serious operation. He found his final resting place in the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Winkler was one of the founding members of the Austrian Society for Economic Research, which made him an honorary member in 2002 . He was a member of the Austrian Geographical Society , which he chaired from 1978 to 1981. Erhart Winkler undertook research trips that took him through Europe , the Middle East , North Africa and North and Central America . His research focus was on economic geography, traffic geography and tourism .
