Career

Eri Tōsaka began wrestling as a child. She is now attending Shigakkan University in Ōbu , Aichi Prefecture and is also a member of the university's wrestling club. After some successes at national level in the junior sector, it was used for the first time in 2011 at an international championship, the Asian Junior Championship in Jakarta. There she won the title in the weight class up to 48 kg, in which she only wrestled in junior and senior age, ahead of Nguyen Thi Lua from Vietnam. In December 2011, she was also the Japanese vice-champion in the senior category behind the multiple world champion Hitomi Obara- Sakamoto.

In February 2012 she started at the Asian championship in Gumi / South Korea and came in third behind Zhao Shasha from China and Lee Yu-mi from South Korea. She was not considered for a nomination for the 2012 Olympic Games, because Hitomi Obara-Sakamoto, who also became Olympic champion in London, dominated the action in her weight class. Eri Tōsaka got the chance to start at the World Championships in Strathcona County / Canada in September 2012 and took advantage of it. She won there over Lenka Matejewa, Slovakia, Jaqueline Schellin , Germany and Patimat Bagomedowa from Azerbaijan and was thus in the final battle against the Belarusian Vanessa Kaladschinskaja . She was subject to this controversial 1: 2 rounds (2: 0, 0: 1 and 2: 3) points. The Japanese side was of the opinion that Eri Tōsaka was disadvantaged by the judges in the third round, which they gave 2: 3 points. She became runner-up world champion.

In December 2012 she won the Japanese women's championship title for the first time, defeating junior world champion Yuki Irie on points in the final battle .

In 2013, Eri Tosaka continued to push forward. First she won the Universiade in Kazan and in September 2013 she won the Universiade in Budapest with victories over Madalina Liguraru, Romania, Alyssa Lampe , United States, Tatjana Amanchol-Bakatschuk , Kazakhstan, Melanie Lesaffre, France and Mayelis Yesenio Caripo Castillo , Venezuela World champion in the weight class up to 48 kg body weight.

In January 2014, she was part of the Japanese team at the Team World Cup in Tokyo, which cleared Russia 8-0 in the final. She landed a shoulder win over Valerija Tschepsarakowa in the weight class up to 48 kg. In September 2014 Eri Tosaka won the undisputed second world title in Tashkent in the weight class up to 48 kg. She defeated Silvia Felice, Italy, Natalja Pulkowskaja, Ukraine, Alyssa Lampe, Kim Hyun-gyong , North Korea and Iwona Matkowska , Poland. Shortly after this triumph, Eri Tosaka also won the Asian Games in Incheon / South Korea, which are very important to the Asian athletes. In the final, she defeated Sun Yanan from China.

At the 2015 World Cup in Las Vegas, Eri Tosaka won her third title in her traditional weight class with victories over Erdenesüchiin Narangerel, Mongolia, Jana Rattigan-Stadnik, Great Britain, Genevieve Morrison, Canada, Walentina Islamowa-Brik, Russia and Maria Stadnik , Azerbaijan Episode. In December 2015 she also won the Japanese championship title for the fourth time in the weight class up to 53 kg body weight ahead of Nanami Irie.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Eri Tosaka also succeeded in the weight class up to 48 kg with victories over Schuldis Eschimowa, Kazakhstan, Haley Ruth Augellu, United States, Sun Yanan, China and Maria Stadnik from Azerbaijan (3: 2 points) to become an Olympic champion for the first time.

After her Olympic victory, Eri Tosaka could not compete because of a protracted foot injury. But she hopes to qualify for the Meiji Cup in June 2017 for the World Championships in August 2017. Unfortunately, she did not recover in time, so that she was unable to compete in 2017. The three-time junior world champion (Cadets) Yui Susaki represented them worthily.

At the Japanese championship in December 2017, however, she was able to start. There she came in 3rd place in the new weight class up to 50 kg body weight. At the Meiji Cup in Tokyo in June 2018, she also took 3rd place in the same weight class behind Yui Susaki and Yuki Irie .
