Career

Werner played at the beginning of the 2007/08 season for Ilves Tampere in the Finnish SM-liiga , his first stop in Europe, and then signed a contract with the DEG Metro Stars from the German Ice Hockey League , for which he spent the rest of the season and the Play -offs completed. The defender was previously active in North American ice hockey and mainly played in the minor leagues . Since 1999, he has held various teams in the USA Hockey Association's youth development program in the North American Hockey League and United States Hockey League , the Sioux Falls Stampede , the University of Michigan team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations, and the AHL from 2005 to 2007 -Team Manchester Monarchs and their farm team , the Reading Royals from the ECHL . In a total of 74 games for the Monarchs, the right-shooter scored five goals and 31 assists.

In January 2009, the defender moved from the Manchester Monarchs, to whom he had returned after his engagement in Germany, to Augsburg. There, his contract was not extended at the end of the season, so Werner initially moved as a try-out player to the Austrian first division club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana . However, there he received no contract and returned to North America. For the Reading Royals , he played 38 games in the ECHL before he was signed by Vålerenga IF from the GET-ligaen in February 2010 .

For the 2010/11 season, Werner was signed by HK Jesenice from the Austrian ice hockey league . He left this in the summer of 2011 to join HC Neumarkt Wild Goose from the A2 series , in which the American received a contract for a season and was the first player from the United States to be recorded in the club's history. For the 2012/13 season Werner was signed by the Nottingham Panthers from the Elite Ice Hockey League .
