Erich August Mayer
Erich August Mayer (born August 23, 1894 in Vienna ; † April 9, 1945 there ) was an Austrian writer .
Life
Erich August Mayer came from a Sudeten German family; the father was a high school teacher . 1912 Erich August Mayer began a study of German language and literature , history and geography at the University of Vienna . He took part in the First World War as a volunteer . In 1921 he finished his studies with a PhD for Doctor of Philosophy . He then worked as a middle school teacher; during this time he headed the Vienna section of the German School Association . The contacts with the “Morold Round”, a circle of friends of the German national writer Max von Millenkovich and the ethnic publisher Adolf Luser were decisive for his further career . In 1923 Luser made him the editor-in-chief of his family magazine Der getreue Eckart , which developed into a success sheet for the first Austrian republic . In 1927 Erich August Mayer founded the Eckart Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts , which was close to the National Socialists. From 1932 Mayer was a member of the NSDAP . Mayer committed suicide shortly before the end of World War II suicide ; he was buried in Vienna's south-west cemetery.
Erich August Mayer was the author of novels , short stories and a verse epic . In his work, a development from beginnings critical of civilization to an anti-democratic ideology strongly influenced by National Socialism can be recorded. The late novels Heimat and Der Knecht belong to the Nazi genre of blood and soil literature ; the latter was on the list of literature to be discarded in the Soviet Zone in 1946 . For his hexameter - epic Paul Markt 17 Mayer in 1937 received an award for the Austrian State Prize for Literature.
