meaning

The themes that Sauer primarily deals with in his artistic activities include coping with the Holocaust and the image of people in their environment . Most of the time his concern is already evident from the title of his work . In doing so he tries to bring the viewer closer to the humanism that inspires him. On sculptor workshop days and summer academies - e.g. B. in Frankenthal's twin town Strausberg - Sauer passes on his knowledge and technical skills to artist colleagues and talented newcomers.

Sauer is Frankenthal's best-known contemporary artist and a member of the board of the Palatinate Artists Working Group . His sculptures can now be found as commissioned work all over the world, just as Sauer is represented at exhibitions around the world . In 2005 a discussion arose in his hometown as to whether a planned artist house should be dedicated to him alone or to other artists in the city. Sauer himself advocated a general art house and finally prevailed. The Kunsthaus Frankenthal was opened on September 7, 2007 in the listed Philipp-Karcher -Haus with an exhibition of works by Erwin Wortelkamp .
