Erlheim is a part of the municipality of Ursensollen in the Upper Palatinate district of Amberg-Sulzbach .

geography

Erlheim is located opposite the Urlberg in the Erlheimer dry valley . Until 1750, strong springs on the western outskirts of Bittenbrunn formed a stream that flowed through the Erlbacher Tal towards Kuhfelsen , a dolomite block in the Hager Tal, over the Mühltal to the Vils . On the valley flanks of the Erlbacher valley dolomites are cut, which only come to light here, otherwise you will find a chalk cover around Erlheim .

history

There is a prehistoric settlement in the Erlheim area . The spring near Bittenbrunn provided the people here with a basis for settlement, as water is relatively rare in the Franconian Alb . A pointed stone ax from the Stone Age was found in 1961 . To the east of Erlheim there are so-called ore nests, which were smelted as early as the Hallstatt period. When the road from Amberg to Erlheim was lowered in 1932, a barrow with 13 skeletons as well as iron and ceramic finds were excavated.

In historical times, the Bistumer Steig ran from Bohemia via Luhe and Amberg on to Hohenburg , Velburg and south to Ingolstadt . The name of the Altstrasse is derived from bischtum (= apiary, apiary) and honey and bee products were sought-after merchandise. The place was founded in the course of the Bavarian conquest. The suffix -heim indicates an expansion site that arose in the course of the population increase. The name Orili heim is derived from Aurilianus and in the 11th century was the focus of various places that belonged to the monastery of Sankt Emmeram von Regensburg . The local church consecrated to Laurentius was mentioned as early as 1010.

Erlheim was the headquarters of the Örilheimers or Oerlhaimer. These were ministerials of the St. Emmeram monastery. In 1337 a Chunrat Oerelhaimer is named as the owner of Roßstein Castle . In Erlheim their seat was in the "strange house" (formerly house no. 1 in Erlbach, today Laurentiusstrasse 6), a two-story hipped roof building . This burned down in 1890, today the fire site is built over.

Erlheim belonged to the Hofmark Zant . In 1812 Erlbach was assigned to the Zant-Hohenkemnath local court. On June 28, 1818 Erlbach belongs to the rural community Hohenkemnath, after the dissolution of the Hohenkemnath-Zant local court, an independent community Zant was formed, which was also added to Erlbach. Erlheim belonged to the municipality of Zant until 1972 and was then incorporated into Ursensollen.
