Ernst Friedrich von Bockelberg

Ernst Friedrich von Bockelberg (born December 19, 1727 in Königsberg , † May 29, 1796 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and most recently assessor of the 5th Department of the Upper War College and general director of the army.

Life

His parents were Johann Heinrich Friedrich Bockelberg (1684-1753) and his wife Maria Elisabeth, born von Flörcke (* July 1706; † January 12, 1781) from the house Mischen. His father was a Prussian captain in Küsassierregiment Nos. 12 and was in the December 1, 1736 peerage charged .

Military career

Bockelberg came to Berlin on July 25, 1740 as a cadet . On July 1, 1743, he was transferred to the von Goetze infantry regiment as a non-commissioned officer. He then took part in the Second Silesian War . On July 24, 1745 he was promoted to ensign . On May 20, 1747, Bockelberg was transferred to the Guard Regiment during a military parade because he was noticeable because of his size. There he was assigned second lieutenant on June 28, 1751 and on May 18, 1753 accompanying the king when he set off on a trip to East Prussia . The king also allowed Bockelberg to visit his father. During the Seven Years' War he fought in the Battle of Leuthen , where he was wounded. At Torgau he acquired the order Pour le Mérite . During that time he became Premier Lieutenant on February 27, 1757 , staff captain on January 12, 1759, and captain and company commander on July 24, 1762 .

After the war, it was not until October 15, 1772 that he became a major . On October 20, 1776, he was transferred to the “von Schwartz” infantry regiment , where Bockelberg became the commander of the 2nd battalion. On August 24, 1777 he was sent to the autumn maneuvers near Potsdam. He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession before he received his resignation on October 4, 1780.

On June 25, 1787 he was appointed colonel in the army and as assessor of the 5th Department of the Higher War College and as general director of the army. On September 20, 1788 he became a member of the commission for the reorganization of the canton system under General von Möllendorf . For mobilization on April 21, 1790, he was assigned to the main army in Silesia as director. On May 20, 1792 he was promoted to major general with a patent from May 25, 1792. He died on May 29, 1796 in Berlin and was buried on June 1, 1796 in the garrison church.

Bockelberg married Johanna Karoline Meyer (born November 19, 1739; † June 21, 1811) in Breslau in 1762, a daughter of Heinrich Christian Meyer, a councilor from the Electorate of Saxony. The couple had several children:
