Carl August von Stutterheim (born September 20, 1759 in Lübben , † June 9, 1820 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Carl August was a member of the von Stutterheim family, originally from Thuringia . His parents were the Polish and Electoral Saxon captain , state deputy of the Lübben district (1767–1774) and state elder of Lübben (1774–1805), as well as the heir to the meadow (until 1792) and Steinkirchen (1792–1798), Ernst Abraham von Stutterheim (1723 –1816) and Konstantine Wilhelmine von Luck (1734–1816).

Career

In 1773 Stutterheim joined the infantry regiment "von Bülow" of the Prussian army as a private corporal . He was promoted to Portepeefähnrich in 1774 and to Ensign in 1776 . In this rank he took part in the Bavarian Succession War with the regiment . By 1792 he was promoted to staff captain and moved to Poland with the Prussian contingent to help put down the Kościuszko uprising . In 1797 he became captain and company commander in the infantry regiment "von Courbière" , after which he was promoted to major in 1803. In the Fourth Coalition War , he was taken prisoner by the French through no fault of his own during the battle near Christburg . Only in 1808 could he return to the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment (No. 7) .

He rose to lieutenant colonel in 1812 and joined the Silesian Landwehr as a brigadier in 1813, was promoted to colonel in 1813 and was also given command of the 11th Reserve Infantry Regiment in 1813 (No. 23) . In the wars of liberation he took part in the battle of Dennewitz and the siege of Antwerp. In 1813 Stutterheim was brigade commander in III. Army Corps (Bülow) and received the Iron Cross 2nd class for his service with Dennewitz . In 1814 he advanced to major general and received the order Pour le Mérite with oak leaves. In 1815 he was first chief of the 20th Brigade in the 5th Army Corps (Yorck) and then Landwehr inspector in Silesia .

In 1820 Stutterheim took over the 9th Landwehr Brigade as commander.

family

Stutterheim married Henriette Friederike Karoline von Bockelberg (1768–1826), daughter of the Prussian major general Ernst Friedrich von Bockelberg (1727–1796) in Berlin in 1794 . The marriage resulted in seven children, of which only three daughters survived their father:
