Ernst Schroeder (painter)

Ernst Georg Horst Schroeder (born July 15, 1928 in Stettin , † December 11, 1989 in Hamburg ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Ernst Schroeder grew up as the son of Captain Waldemar Schroeder in Stettin. After two years in Swinoujscie , he moved to Usedom in 1945 , to the seaside resort of Bansin . Until then he was painting self-taught. On the recommendation of the doctor and art collector D. Uebe, he began to study art. From 1949 to 1954 Schroeder studied at the Berlin-Charlottenburg School of Art, where he became a master student of Max Pechstein . From 1956 to 1958 he was a master student with Otto Nagel and Heinrich Ehmsen at the German Academy of the Arts in East Berlin . He often spent the summers on Usedom. He became well known with the painters Otto Manigk , Otto Niemeyer-Holstein , Rose Kühn and Herbert Wegehaupt .

After graduating, he earned money as a nurse. His study trip to Paris in 1956 was important. From 1956 to 1958 he was a master student at the Deutsche Akademie der Künste in Berlin with Otto Nagel and Heinrich Ehmsen . Friendship and joint work connected him with the artists Robert Rehfeldt , with whom he shared a studio, Manfred Böttcher , Harald Metzkes , Gottfried Uwe Richter and Werner Stötzer . In 1958 Schroeder moved to Hamburg. At the end of his life he lived with his mother in Nienburg. Most of the works created in Berlin were kept by Robert Rehfeldt.

Works

In 1973 the “Collection of Drawings”, which at the time was part of the Kupferstichkabinett of the Staatliche Museen Berlin, acquired five sheets. The painting Berlin Menagerie has been in the Nationalgalerie Berlin since 1987. 1998 bought Lindenau Museum works billiards pub (around 1956/1958), Still life with green pears (undated) and Still Life with mills (around 1953) and three other drawings by Schroeder on. The Pomeranian State Museum owns Schroeder's painting Hamburger Hafen (around 1951 , oil on cardboard ) and in the art collection Neubrandenburg Coast with Steamer (verso: Still life with plum basket in a barn , undated, oil on cardboard, 72.5 × 97.5 cm ).
