Erpe is a sub-municipality of Erpe-Mere on the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek in the Denderstreek in the Flanders region . It is located in the southeast of the province of East Flanders and belongs to the Arrondissement of Aalst . The sub-municipality is bounded by the sub-municipalities Mere , Ottergem and Erondegem and the municipal areas of Lede (sub-municipalities Impe and Lede) and Aalst (sub-municipalities Aalst and Nieuwerkerken). Erpe has 4903 inhabitants (January 1, 2003) and an area of 8.28 km². The population density is 592 inhabitants / km².
history
Erpe was first mentioned in a document in 1057, although the village is likely much older. The name is derived from the name Erpo. The population of Erpe increased steadily between the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1769 there were 1,032 inhabitants, in 1801 in 1638 and in 1893 already in 2394. Towards the end of the 19th century there were two watermills in the village, a windmill, two breweries and a vinegar factory.
Attractions

- The Sint-Martinuskirche is in Erpe. Erpe belongs to the dean's office of Lede.

The Molenbeek route runs through Erpe. The Molenbeek route is a bicycle route, the mills of the municipality of Erpe-Mere and two streams, both of which are called Molenbeek, are known.
Sports
Erpe used to have two football clubs in the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBFV): FC Oranja Erpe and FC Edixvelde. The Belgian "National Clubhouse" of the " Blue Angels " motorcycle club is located in Erpe.
