Erzhütten-Wiesenthalerhof is a local district and the oldest suburb of Kaiserslautern . The district belongs to the Kaiserslautern core city and has district number 10.

history

In 1711 the court chamber of the Electoral Palatinate approved the construction and operation of a farm north of the Kaiserwoog for the chief forester Jakob Weller. During excavations, he increasingly came across brown rock between the layers of red sandstone and had it examined by the owner of the Trippstadt - Karlstal ironworks , Baron Ludwig Anton von Hacke . The positive finding of iron ore prompted Hacke to carry out further successful test digs. In 1725 ore mining began under the direction of Obersteigers Johann Jacob Diehl and one year later he and two other Steigers were allowed to build simple clay cottages above the Herrenwiesental. 1726 is the hour of birth of the miners' settlement Erzhütten-Wiesenthalerhof in the Reichswald.

In 1771 Hacke leased his Trippstadt ironworks to the smelter Johann Jacob von Gienanth, including the ore mine "Im Reichswald". This was followed by the settlement of other craft families and the expansion of forestry such as charcoal burning . In the first coalition war , the "Hütterer" settlement was destroyed in 1793/94, but was immediately rebuilt and experienced its historical climax in 1804 with the visit of Emperor Napoleon I to the Rütschhof.

In 1829 Gienanth sold his office building on the "Erzhütten", which from then on was used as a school building and which, expanded in 1884 and 1901, is still a primary school today. However, sales also show the decline in ore mining. The Hütter found work in the up-and-coming factories of the textile and metal industry in Kaiserslautern.
