Eschbach is a district of Usingen in the Hochtaunuskreis in southern Hesse . The place became known far beyond the Taunus through the forest tent site and the former weekend settlement below the Eschbacher cliffs.

geography

The place is located on the stream of the same name on the northern edge of the Usinger Basin . Located on the northeastern edge of the Taunus , it is surrounded by mixed forests, fields and meadows. It is located 2 km north of Usingen and 32 km north of Frankfurt am Main at an average altitude of 323 m.

Michelbach borders in the north, Wernborn in the east, Usingen in the south and the federal highway 456 in the west towards Grävenwiesbach and Weilburg .

history

Eschbach was part of the county of Cleeberg and was first mentioned in 1280 when it was assigned to the Eppstein rule . During this time the place was also called Aschebach or Kettern-Eschbach . Eschbach belonged to Grävenwiesbach ecclesiastically and judicially until the Reformation. With the Reformation Eschbach became the seat of its own parish. In the meantime it came into possession through an inheritance from Eppstein, it was only pledged to Nassau-Saarbrücken in 1565 by the Counts of Stolberg , and in 1596 it came into Nassau possession through purchase.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Eschbach was incorporated into the city of Usingen by virtue of state law on August 1, 1972.

The talking coat of arms shows two ash trees and a wavy beam (brook). The trees appeared on the town's seal in the middle of the 17th century. Instead of the bar, the seal showed a crescent moon and a sun. The gold and blue colors are the Nassaus.

In 1816 Eschbach had a seal with a mountain or rock (this probably represented the Eschbacher Klippen), which was used until the middle of the 20th century. The current coat of arms was officially approved in October 1953.

Protestant church

1843–1846, the Protestant church in neo-Romanesque style was built according to plans by the Weilburg master builder Eduard Bautzer on the site of a previous building mentioned in 1388 . It houses the largest surviving Raßmann organ . The instrument, built in 1845, has two manuals, a pedal and 24 (hist. 23) registers. The associated parish includes Eschbach as well as Michelbach and Wernborn and has its own parish hall. Partner community is Wandersleben .

A school with two classes, teacher's apartments and a school garden was built on the site of the former Hattsteiner Hof in 1828. Today it is a renovated half-timbered house and eye-catcher in the center of the village and includes a doctor's practice.

Today the so-called servants' house and residence, which was built around 1700 on the courtyard of the property acquired by Prince Walrad von Nassau-Usingen for his wife Maria Isabella von Croy.

Usually "Buchsteinfelsen", around 1910 the rocks were also called "Kaiserin-Friedrich-Klippe". They stand a few hundred meters above the north end of Eschbach and are up to 12 meters high. The rock wall made of quartz rock is a visible part of an approximately 6 km long quartz corridor that continues across the Usatal to the Wormstein in the Usingen city forest. From a geological point of view, it is a transverse fault that formed when the mountains unfolded. The resistant quartz was able to defy the erosion in some places and appears today in various places in the Taunus, but rarely as spectacular as here. West of the cliffs, on the opposite side of the Usingen-Michelbach district road, somewhat hidden in the forest, there is a "sister rock", the Saienstein. At the southern foot of the cliffs there used to be an open-air theater, the remains of which can still be seen. Until a few years ago, a very popular "cliff concert" was performed here every year.

Climbers use the steep walls for training units, there are well-secured tours with rock hooks of difficulty levels I-VII, especially the south face of the cliffs is very popular.

The Eschbacher Klippen ski jump is located nearby .

Eschbach is on the L3270 state road. 2 km west of the center there is a connection to the federal highway 456 and 12 km east a connection to the A5 via Ober-Mörlen.

Eschbach has a bus connection to Usingen, Michelbach and Wernborn.
