Esmeraldo Barreto de Farias IdP (born July 4, 1949 in Santo Antônio de Jesus , Bahia , Brazil ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in São Luís do Maranhão .

Life

Esmeraldo Barreto de Farias joined the secular institute Istituto del Prado and was ordained a priest on January 9, 1977 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Paulo Afonso on March 22, 2000 . The Bishop of Amargosa , João Nílton dos Santos Souza , donated him episcopal ordination on June 11 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Jairo Rui Matos da Silva , Bishop of Bonfim , and André de Witte , Bishop of Ruy Barbosa . As a motto he chose LEVANTA-TE E ANDA .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him bishop of Santarém on February 28, 2007 . On November 30, 2011 he was appointed Archbishop of Porto Velho .

On March 18, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão and titular bishop of Summula .
