The Etzelbach is a nine-kilometer-long river in Bavaria in the karstified Franconian Jura , which flows into the Högenbach from the right after a first western, then south-facing double loop . The confluence lies shortly after the district border between Weigendorf in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in the east and the parish village of Hartmannshof in the municipality of Pommelsbrunn in the district of Nürnberger Land ; Apart from the last few meters, its course is entirely in the Amberg-Sulzbacher district.
geography
River course
The source of the Etzelbach borders on the southeastern edge of the settlement of Neukirchen bei Sulzbach-Rosenberg . The initially western course leads through the center of the original town, then always along the district road 39 to Etzelwang . It is already passing the town on the right on the bank on a south-westerly course, coming out of it before the Penzenhof that will soon follow, the river Reinbach, which is rich in catchment area, flows into it.
Slowly entering a left-hand bend, the Etzelbach flows alongside the county road, now numbered 38, on which several other small districts of Etzelwang line up. Approximately at the westernmost point of the run it crosses over to the municipality of Weigendorf , crosses the district of Oed at the transition from the left to the following shorter right curve . At the height of the Weigendorf itself, which is mainly on the left, the Weigenbach flows from the village . Less than half a kilometer further down, the Etzelbach, now heading west, flows a few meters after the parish boundary to Pommelsbrunn near the parish village of Hartmannshof from the right into the Högenbach coming from the southeast , which then continues west.
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Etzelbach covers 61.2 km² in the Franconian Alb . The eastern catchment area border is part of the European main watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea, because on the other side, the Vils collects the runoff from its immediate competitors on the other side of the sheath and feeds it over the Naab to the Danube . The catchment area of the Hirschbach , which flows into the Pegnitz , borders in the north and west, and that of the upper and middle Högenbach, whose lower reaches the Pegnitz after this, to the south.
The catchment area, which lies entirely in the karst area of the Franconian Alb, is relatively poor in watercourses. The right upper course inflow Reinbach exceeds the total length of the Etzelbach with its length of - together with its longer upper course Eiselbach - about 11.3 km.
