Eugen Fröhlich

Eugen Fröhlich (born March 8, 1910 in Ulm , † October 2, 1971 in Tübingen ) was a German doctor , dentist , oral surgeon and university professor .

Life

After completing his studies in dentistry from 1929 to 1933 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , Fröhlich received his doctorate. med. dent. on the rubber - vulcanization . This was followed by an assistantship at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital in Berlin with Martin Waßmund . In 1936 he became a specialist in dental, oral and maxillary diseases , which at that time did not require a double license.

During National Socialism , after completing his basic military training as a marksman, he became a member of the Sturmabteilung (SA) in 1938 and of the National Socialist German Workers' Party in 1939 (NSDAP - membership number 7.302.237). He also joined the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV) and in 1940 the National Socialist German Medical Association (NSDÄB). In September 1948 Fröhlich was denazified and classified as a "fellow traveler" (group IV).

In November 1937 he became senior physician at the surgical and conservative department of the Dental Institute of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen under Ferdinand Wasmuth and studied at the same time a second degree in medicine , where he obtained his doctorate in 1943. med. PhD. In 1939 he advanced to the position of deputy head of the department for maxillofacial and reconstructive surgery at the reserve hospital in Tübingen. After the end of the war he was first head of the surgical and conservation department, then head of the Tübingen dental clinic. In 1948 he completed his habilitation and in 1951 became a specialist in dental, oral and maxillary diseases, in 1954 an adjunct professor and in 1958 a full professor of dentistry, oral and maxillofacial medicine. He was director of the Dental Institute in Tübingen until his death in 1971. Fröhlich collapsed during the 6th Lake Constance conference in Lindau and died three weeks later of the consequences of the stroke he had suffered . He was buried in a mountain cemetery above Tübingen.

Scientific career
