Eugen Philippovich Freiherr von Philippsberg, also Eugen von Philippovich (born March 15, 1858 in Vienna , † June 4, 1917 in Vienna), was an Austrian economist and university professor .

Eugen Philippovich von Philippsberg came from a Bosnian officer family, was the son of the Imperial and Royal Field Marshal Lieutenant Nikolaus Philippowich (1785-1858), married to Emma von Roth and grandson of the postmaster Maximilian Philippovich, died in 1810, landowner in Gospic in Croatia and his wife Klara von Vukassovich, died 1811 (NDB, volume 20, Berlin 2001, page 393)

Eugen Philippovic studied law in Vienna and Graz , where he became a member of the Arminia Graz fraternity in 1876 . He completed his habilitation in political economy and taught at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from 1885 to 1893 . From 1888 he held the chair, followed by Max Weber in 1894 . In 1893 Philippovic was appointed to the University of Vienna , where his students included Joseph A. Schumpeter and Emil Lederer . In addition to his academic career, he also pursued political and cultural interests. Philippovich was one of the spiritual leaders of the Social Political Party founded in 1896 .

Philippovich was a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik , founded in 1873 , where he campaigned for a “national integration and mobilization” of the workers through a combination of social policy and colonial policy . As a “staunch colonial politician” he was elected to the board of the German Colonial Association in Freiburg im Breisgau, which he was then able to represent with appearances at national level in Berlin and Dresden. Philippovich was one of the co-founders of the International Association for Legal Protection of Workers in Paris in 1900 . He also emerged as a collector and connoisseur of Eskimo art and ivory carving .

Eugen Philippovic von Philippsberg is the cousin of the brothers Joseph Philippovich von Philippsberg (1818–1889) and Franz Philippovich von Philippsberg (1820–1903), both as field warden in the service of the Imperial and Royal Army of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. He was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof .

In 1926, Philippovichgasse in Vienna- Döbling (19th district) was named after him.
