The frigate Euro (F 575) was in service with the Italian Navy from 1984 to 2019 . She was the sixth ship in the Maestrale class and named after Euros , a north African wind that sometimes reached southern Italy. In Greek mythology, the name also stands for a deity.

The Euro was most recently part of the 2nd Divisione navale with its home port of Taranto .

Mission history

The following mission history is not complete:

  • 1986: Participation in Operation Girasole in the Central Mediterranean from April to May during the Libya crisis ( Operation El Dorado Canyon )
  • 1986: from June to September with sister ship Espero (F 576) training voyage to South and North America ( Buenos Aires to Norfolk )
  • 1987: Operation in the Persian Gulf from July to December during the so-called tanker war
  • 1992: from June to September training trip to the Caribbean on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the (re-) discovery of America
  • 1993: Participation in Operation Sharp Fence in the Adriatic Sea and the Strait of Otranto from February to March
  • 1993: In May and June training trip in the Atlantic and participation in the celebrations for the 600th anniversary of the birth of Henry the Navigator
  • 1994: August to December with STANAVFORMED on the Operation Sharp Guard involved

  • 2018: in June participation in the exhibition Sea Future 2018 in the arsenal of La Spezia , then farewell tour with the light frigate Aviere via Salerno , Reggio Calabria and Crotone to Taranto, where it was assigned to the reserve and then out of service on October 2nd, 2019 to be asked.

While the shipyard was in Taranto, the crew received training in the training center there and in that of the British Navy in Plymouth .
