The European Movement Austria (EBÖ) is the platform for pro-European forces in society, economy and politics in Austria . As a non-partisan association of associations, clubs, institutions and other facilities with a pro-European orientation, the EBÖ advocates the promotion of the European idea. It is the national section (“Council”) of the European Movement International with its seat in Brussels and thus part of the largest and oldest pro-European civil society network in Europe .

According to its statutes, the EBÖ promotes European integration in Austria while preserving cultural and regional diversity as well as cross-border cooperation between European civil society. In addition, the EBÖ supports its member organizations in European information, cooperation and educational activities. The EBÖ organizes and intensifies European communication with EU actors at national and European level.

Tasks, projects, politics

The basic political demands of the EBÖ are:

  • Respect European values
  • Reform the EU
  • Build Europe, raise European awareness
  • Improve European communication, prevent national reflexes
  • European problems require European solutions

The main activities of the EBÖ consist of

  • European communication and public relations,
  • Networking the members
  • Multiplier campaigns
  • Cooperation through various information formats (e.g. EBÖ exclusive background briefing)
  • Events (e.g. "Grätzel goes Europe" - district tour for the European elections in May 2019)
  • common basic positions on Austrian European policy and the further development of the EU

Organs of the Platform for the European Movement of Austria are: General Assembly, Board of Directors and General Secretariat.

The general assembly with the new election of the board takes place every two years. All organizations are represented with one vote each.

The Presidium & Board of Directors were elected by the General Assembly on December 18, 2019

The European Movement of Austria currently consists of 17 member organizations (as of April 2020). Admission is decided by the general assembly.
