The Young European Federalists Europe (JEF, French Jeunes Européens Fédéralistes , English Young European Federalists ) are a transnational youth association with over 30,000 members in over 30 countries in Europe and the youth organization of the Union of European Federalists (UEF). The current president of the European Association is Leonie Martin. Offshoots in German-speaking countries are JEF Germany , BEJ / JEF Austria and Young European Swiss .

aims

According to its statutes, the JEF is non-partisan and active in European politics. She advocates the political integration of Europe on the basis of democratically legitimized structures. The JEF advocates an emphasis on the principle of subsidiarity as a form of federal distribution of competences. Another key point is the demand for a free , just and integrated European society . The JEF is committed to a comprehensive reform of the EU towards more democracy , closeness to the citizen , transparency , efficiency and sustainability . She sees the federal integration of Europe as a first step towards the democratization of global governance and a peaceful world order. In addition to the political goals, the association tries in particular to promote European awareness among young people and to encourage them to become socially active.

Working method

The JEF work voluntarily and in a largely decentralized network structure. Decisions are made transparently in the association on the basis of democratic and federal principles.

The umbrella organization at European level ( JEF Europe ) is responsible for the political and organizational coordination of the national sections. JEF Europe is represented by the Executive Bureau , which is elected for a two-year term by delegates from the national sections at the annual European Congress.

The JEF develops positions on European politics and organizes international seminars and congresses for young people, street actions as well as information and discussion events. Four times a year the magazine of JEF that appears treffpunkt.europa . Since 2009, JEF has also had a German-language online magazine called Treffpunkteuropa . The only analyzes of pan-European, party-political mood are published here. The results are considered the world's only monthly forecast for the European elections. In addition to campaigns and projects on current European policy issues, there are also annual events. Since 1999, for example, the JEF has been organizing an international seminar in Berlin at which up to 120 young people from 25 European countries come together. Together with MPs from all parliamentary groups, the JEF organizes the Parliamentary Forum for Europe's Future in the Bundestag . Via the nationwide appointment service Europatermine.de , it tries to make the range of European political events quickly accessible to those interested.

Sections and adult association

The JEF is made up of a large number of national sections, far beyond the European Union.

The German section is called Young European Federalists Germany and has around 4,000 members. The German association was founded in 1949 as the “Bund Europäische Jugend” (BEJ).

In Austria , the national section of the JEF is called “Federation of European Youth - Young European Federalists” (BEJ / JEF Austria). The oldest parliamentary group of JEF Austria is the regional parliamentary group JEF Styria , which was founded in 1955 . It forms the oldest part of the Austrian BEJ / JEF history and is also one of the most active regional associations since the origins. The JEF Steiermark was founded by Max Wratschgo and other founding members under the name Europajugend , until it became JEF Steiermark over the years further developed.

In Switzerland , the national section of the JEF is part of the New European Movement Switzerland and is organizationally independent as Young European Swiss .

Prominent former members

The CDU politician Rudolf Seiters , the SPD politician Jo Leinen and the Greens co-founder Petra Kelly were members of JEF Germany in their youth. Monica Frassoni , who was co-chair of the group The Greens / European Free Alliance in the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009 , was Secretary General of JEF at the end of the 1980s.

Regional Association Hamburg

The former CDU - citizenship deputies Henning Finck , Roland Heintze , Wolfgang D. Kramer and Alexander-Martin Sardina were country Presidencies and Heiko Hecht deputy chairman of the JEF in Hamburg . From 1977 to 1980, the journalist Helmut Stubbe da Luz was regional manager of JEF in Hamburg. The former CDU MEP Georg Jarzembowski and the former State Councilor Detlef Gottschalck (CDU) were also regional managers in this regional association. Johannes Kahrs , Wolfgang D. Kramer and Alexander-Martin Sardina are honorary members of the JEF in Hamburg.
