European Youngster Cup
The European Youngster Cup ( EY-Cup for short ) is a show jumping tournament series that has been held under this name in Germany since 2007 . Eligible are riders up to the age of 25 years. The series is recognized by the FEI .
history
The origins of the European Youngster Cup go back to 2003. This year, the Bavarian Youngster Cup (BYCup) was founded under the leadership of the parents of young riders from Bavaria, in particular Rudolf Hindelang . The aim of the series was to facilitate the transition between the junior / young rider competitions and the "big tournament sport".
Initially, the series consisted of S * jumping competitions with a winning round, which were held across Bavaria. The finals were held at Gut Ising , again as a jumping competition with a winning round in the S * class. In addition, a Bavarian Youngster Cup was held in dressage and pony show jumping in the early years.
In 2006 a complementary series at S ** level was created in addition to the BYCup. This series, called the German Youngster Cup (GYCup) , was often held at the same tournaments as the BYCup, but with the CSI 2 * Linz, a foreign tournament was also part of the series for the first time.
The year 2007 was marked by several changes: The German Youngster Cup became the European Youngster Cup. In addition, it was planned to merge the EY Cup with the BYCup. This was finally implemented in 2008. In 2007 the final tournament of the BYCup / EY-Cup was held in Ising for the last time. The BYCup of dressage riders was also held for the last time, which has been operating under the name TDF Cup since 2008.
At the European Youngster Cup 2008, all S * and S ** exams were held at the same tournaments for the first time, with an S * overall rating and an S ** overall rating being carried out. There were new stations in Switzerland (CSI Neuendorf) and Italy ( Toscana Tour Arezzo). In addition, several Austrian tournaments were added through the cooperation with horsedeluxe event GmbH . All tests at international tournaments have been advertised as CSI U25-A since 2008 . A final was not held.
The year 2009 once again led to major changes: After the EY-Cup in Germany was previously limited to southern Germany, a cooperation with Escon Marketing GmbH started in 2009 . This resulted in special stages in Dortmund , Bremen , Nörten-Hardenberg , Donaueschingen , Oldenburg (Old.) And Frankfurt am Main . At these tournaments, the tournament series is known as the Young Masters League . The tournament in Frankfurt will be held as a "grand finale" with increased prize money.
For the first time in 2009, the best riders of the FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships were invited to the “Grand Final” in Frankfurt. US American Lucy Davis , who also won the "Grand Final 2009", accepted this invitation .
The 2010 season offered further innovations: In cooperation with En Garde Marketing GmbH , a special test was added in Gera , and a so-called “Super Final” was held once during the 2011 World Cup in Leipzig . The best participants in the regular finals of the EY-Cup 2010 at the Frankfurt Festhalleentourier , the most successful participants in US qualifying tests and the winners of the Grand Prix of the Salut Festival Aachen (one of the most important junior equestrian tournaments in Germany) qualified for this . This super-final was advertised as a CSI 2 * for riders up to 26 years of age, as it was still assigned to the 2010 season.
In the 2011 season, the US riders were given another opportunity to participate: four tests for U25 riders in Wellington (Florida) made up the Artisan Farms Young Riders Grand Prix . These tests are counted as regular evaluation tests of the EY-Cup.
In addition, the tradition of the former BYCup ended: The S * exams will continue to be held, but there will no longer be an overall ranking. In return, a series of tournaments up to class S * was established at the Bavarian level with the renewed participation of Rudolf Hindelang, the final of which takes place in Ising: the Hindelang Cup U21. As of the 2012 season, the participation in US special stages was again dispensed with, and the "Grand Final" was moved to Salzburg.
In 2014 the number of stations in Germany increased again. So there were special tests at tournaments in Braunschweig, Mannheim, Balve and Hamburg. At these tournaments, German U25 riders have the opportunity to qualify for the European Youngster Cup final in a class S *** jumping competition as part of the Germany U25 Jumping Cup. The stages of the U25 Jumping Cup were only part of the European Youngster Cup for two years, but the winner of the U25 Jumping Cup final still qualifies for the EY Cup final. In 2016, the European Youngster Cup, including the final tournament, comprised 20 stages.
Awarding of points and prize money
Points are awarded for the special tests of class S ** as follows:
space | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4th | 5 | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14th | 15th | 16 | 17th | 18th | 19th | 20th | all further |
Points | 26th | 24 | 22nd | 20th | 18th | 16 | 15th | 14th | 13 | 12 | 11 | 10 | 9 | 8th | 7th | 6th | 5 | 4th | 3 | 2 | 1 |
The same rating system was used for the S * ratings until 2010. If a rider is allowed to take part in the test with more than one horse, only the rider's best result in this test counts. The prize money for the S ** exams is around € 4,000 to € 5,000.
The venues for the special stages were distributed among the nations as follows in 2015:
- Germany : 13 special stages in Braunschweig , Pöttmes, Eschweiler, Nörten-Hardenberg, Munich-Riem , Balve , Mannheim (CSIO) , Kirchstockach , Aachen (CHI), Ising, Bietigheim-Bissingen, Donaueschingen and Oldenburg,

World finals
In addition to the winner of the overall ranking, the winner of the “Grand Finals” was determined at the last evaluation test at the International Festhalle Horse Show in Frankfurt. This is an S ** class jumping competition with jump-off. As in the other S ** tests, the obstacle height was up to 1.45 meters. However, the endowment of € 20,000 was significantly higher than that of other EYCup exams.
The final at the Amadeus Horse Indoors in Salzburg has been taking place since 2012, and the prize money is now € 27,000 (as of 2016). The test is now called the World Finals , and the height of the obstacles at the 2016 finals was up to 1.55 meters.
All winners of the S ** tests of the respective season, the final winners of the previous year and the S ** overall winners as well as the best from the ranking list qualify for the final tournament. Participants can also be invited. For the S ** overall rating, the rating points achieved up to 2015 were multiplied by 1.5. In 2016, the riders received evaluation points multiplied by a factor of 1.5 in the second qualification for the world finals (a test over 1.50 meters). In the much more demanding world finals, double evaluation points were now awarded.
