CSIO Mannheim 2015

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CSIO Mannheim 2015 was Germany's 100th Nations Cup show jumping event . The tournament was held in Mannheim from June 16-19, 2015 . Chancellor Angela Merkel was the patron of the tournament and Ursula von der Leyen represented her on site .

History and award of the CSIO

After the German Nations Cup history began in 1929 with two Nations Cups in Aachen and Cologne, the 100th Nations Cup tournament was held in 2015 with the CSIO Mannheim. In addition to Aachen, which held the Nations Cup from 1929 to 2014 (only interrupted by World War II and a break in 1986), 73 CSIOs also took place in Berlin (1930 to 1937 and 1939), Dortmund (1954) and Donaueschingen (1986 and Nations Cup final tournaments in 1998 and 2002) Nations Cup tournaments. CSIOs were also organized in the area of responsibility of the German Equestrian Federation of the GDR, these were Leipzig (1966 to 1969) and Trinwillershagen (1974 to 1977). The four Nations Cup tournaments in the Gera-Milbitz riding stadium from 1990 to 1993 were a specialty . With a resolution in 1954, each national association (except for the United States and Canada) was only allowed to host one CSIO per year; after the German reunification, however, the FEI temporarily allowed two Nations Cups in Germany.

After the contract for the 2015 European Championships in Aachen, the organizers of the CHIO Aachen announced that no CHIO would be held that year. In addition to Mannheim, the organizers of the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby (Hamburg) , the Wiesbaden Whitsun tournament and the CHI Donaueschingen also applied to host the Nations Cup . However, the contract went to Mannheim, which had hosted the European Show Jumping Championships in 1997 and 2007, among other things .

The organizers in Mannheim and Hagen ( CDIO Hagen 2015 ) got into trouble when the Aachen organizers announced in mid-2014 that a CDI 5 * / CSI 5 * equestrian tournament would be held in Aachen in May 2015. Peter Hofmann, chairman of the Mannheim Reiter-Verein, criticized: “It is a problem that this year there is a second tournament in Aachen besides the EM. That was not the business basis when we applied. That is neither fair nor collegial. ”The Aachen organizers replied that the date for another tournament besides the European Championship had been in the world association's publicly accessible calendar two years earlier.

Announcement and program

The heart of the tournament program was the CSIO  5 *, the highest tournament category in show jumping. The program was supplemented by tests for young jumpers as part of a CSIYH 1 *, amateur jumping tests (CSIAm-A, CSIAm-B) and national jumping competitions for riders up to the age of 25.

The venue for the tournament was the MVV riding stadium, where the Maimarkt tournament is held every year . There were two tournament places available for the tests. The Reiter-Verein Mannheim eV was the organizer of the Nations Cup tournament.

The first day of the event was Thursday, July 16. The daily program comprised warm-up tests for the various tournament tours. The first test of the CSIO 5 *, a jumping competition with jump-off (obstacles up to 1.55 meters high) was already endowed with 30,000 euros. The highlight of the tournament Friday was the "European Grand Prix". This second competition of the CSIO 5 * was also a jumping competition with jump-off.

On Saturday the fourth station of “Germany's U25 Jumping Cup 2015” was held. The CSIO Nations Cup was then held. The day ended with a show program entitled “Mannheim - City of Music, Horses and Emotions”, the climax of which was a pas de deux by Charlotte Dujardin and Isabell Werth .

The last day of the tournament included the final tests of the CSIYH 1 * and the amateur tours in particular the Mannheim Grand Prix. This CSIO 5 * examination was endowed with 300,000 euros.

Price from Europe

The “European Prize” was held on Friday, July 17th from 3 pm. With this title, the organizer tied in with the Nations Cup tournaments in Aachen, where the European Prize is the most important jumping competition on Wednesday. The test in Mannheim was a jumping competition with jump-offs with obstacles up to 1.55 meters high. The prize money for the examination, which was presented by the MAG Mannheimer Ausstellung GmbH (economic sponsor of the Mannheim May market), was 80,000 euros.

In the first round of the test, 12 of the 56 starters remained without errors. In the jump-off of these 12, Italy was strongly represented with three riders, and the first error-free ride in the jump-off came from its ranks: Emanuele Gaudiano managed this with nine-year-old Caspar in a time of 39.38 seconds. The following riders were initially unable to get to this result for a long time. Kevin Staut narrowly missed the lead , who had a better time with Qurack de Falaise , but received four penalty points at the last obstacle. Only the last riders of the jump-off delivered faultless rides again: Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum rode slowly and with Comanche remained without mistakes in a time of 47.08 seconds. Hans-Dieter Dreher, as the penultimate starter, secured the lead with a significantly faster time, but he had to pass the victory to the last starter (Robert Whitaker), who was even faster.

The fourth station of “Germany's U25 Jumping Cup 2015” took place on Saturday (July 18th) from 11:15 am. This was a nationally advertised jumping competition with jump-off (class S ***) for riders up to 25 years of age. Like all five stages of the U25 Jumping Cup, the test was also a valuation test of the European Youngster Cup . The Müter family (Elmgestüt Drei Eichen, Königslutter) and the Foundation for Top German Equestrian Sports are sponsors of the competition, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, as well as the entire U25 jumping cup.

Of the 18 participants, seven starter pairs managed to get into the jump-off with a faultless ride. Niklas Krieg and the Holstein mare Carella won here with a lead of over a second .

Nations Cup

The German Nations Cup in show jumping was held on the afternoon of July 18th. As is customary with Nations Cups, it was a jumping competition with two rounds and a possible jump-off , with the course of both rounds being identical. The obstacles of the test sponsored by MVV Energie were up to 1.55 meters high, the endowment was 200,000 euros. Since the CHIO Aachen was eliminated from the FEI Nations Cup series for sponsorship reasons in the 2014 season , the CSIO Mannheim was also not part of this tournament series.

The first round of the test was dominated by the Irish team, which ended the round with a time penalty. The German team got into a good starting position in the first round with a result of only four penalty points. The second round was unfortunate for Ireland, 26 more penalty points threw the team far back. The teams from the United States and Belgium, who were both in third place after the first round, did not collect any further penalty points in the second round, which brought them to the top of the field with a total of eight penalty points. Another obstacle release gave Germany a total of eight penalty points, so that a jump-off of these three nations was necessary.

Beezie Madden was the first pair to start in the jump-off with her Belgian gelding Cortes'C '. With a fast, faultless lap, she put the other jumpers under pressure. Belgium's Pieter Devos and Dylano were also without mistakes, but slower . Christian Ahlmann was the last rider in the jump-off, with Taloubet Z he came close to Madden's time, but a pole fell at the last obstacle, so that Germany came third in its 100th domestic Nations Cup.

Mannheim Grand Prix

The most highly endowed examination of the tournament took place on Sunday afternoon. The Mannheim Grand Prix had prize money of 300,000 euros, making it one of the most highly endowed show jumping competitions in Germany. The test was advertised as a jumping competition with jump-offs with obstacles up to 1.60 meters high.

After the first half of the first lap was carried out in good conditions, the weather deteriorated increasingly. Two strong storms and hurricane-like gusts forced the organizers to take a one-hour break. Due to the good soil and extensive efforts to remove the water masses, the test was able to be continued after the partially overturned obstacles that were blown away from their location had been rebuilt. A total of 15 out of 48 starter pairs made it into the jump-off with a faultless ride.

As the first starter in the jump-off, Paul Estermann managed a faultless ride with the nine-year-old gelding Lord Pepsi . Shortly afterwards, Katharina Offel took the lead from him, who with Zipper (whom she had taken over from René Tebbel just a few weeks earlier ) crossed the finish line in 43.66 seconds without any mistakes. The riders who followed her tried to take the lead with fast rides, but received drops, especially at the last obstacle. Tactically, Abdel Said rode , who crossed the finish line slowly but without errors with Vingino and thus ended up in fifth place. Only the ride of the penultimate rider brought a change of leadership: Beezie Madden showed the fourth clear round in the jump-off with Cortes'C ' . As the last starter pair, Ludger Beerbaum and Chiara entered the jump-off course, as they did in the Nations Cup, so they also managed a second round in the Grand Prix without mistakes. With a time of 41.61 seconds, they were another second faster than Madden and thus won the test.
