The Evangelical Church in the Volmerdingsen district of Bad Oeynhausen is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Volmerdingsen-Wittekindshof, which belongs to the Vlotho parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

Building history and architecture

The oldest documented reference to a church in Volmerdingsen comes from the year 1320. The parish was parish off from Bergkirchen at an unknown point in time . In 1560 a late Gothic church building was built. The tower may come from a previous Romanesque building , the history of which is unknown. In 1877 the old church was demolished except for the tower and a neo-Gothic hall with an apse was built by 1878 , which still exists today.

There is a buttress on the sandstone facade of the nave , the windows are pointed arches . The tower is equipped with barrel vaults , the sound holes are rounded and in two parts with central posts.

Furnishing

Nothing has been preserved from the furnishings of the previous buildings. The winged altar of the late Gothic church, like its neo-Gothic successor from 1878, has disappeared. The Renaissance - baptismal font of the old church was located in 1902 in the Church of the Resurrection in Bad Oeynhausen, which was destroyed by fire in 1947.

The coffered ceiling of today's church was painted in 1949 by Paul Thol from Berlin. The organ was made in 1972 by Gustav Steinmann Orgelbau in Vlotho. In the tower there are three bells that were cast from steel by the Bochum Association in 1922 . The earlier bronze bells from 1679 and 1878 had to be handed in during the First World War .
