The Protestant town church is the parish church of the Evangelical congregation of Saarland district town of St. Wendel . The parish is assigned to the Saar Ost parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

Financed by a "gift of grace" from the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV , construction of the church began in August 1843 and was inaugurated on October 31, 1845 after two years of construction. Due to the ingress of moisture and poor foundation of the tower , the church had to undergo extensive renovation measures in 1863/64 . A new tower was built
according to plans by the architect Mathias Mußweiler , who led the renovation work.

The church got its current appearance in the 1950s when the entrance portal between the nave and the tower, which was still open until then, was closed. In 1987/88 the church was renovated for the last time so far.

Furnishing

There is also an ambo and a candlestick in the choir room , as well as ten large-format pictures by Isabelle Federkeil ( Freisen ), which were acquired through donations and have a connection between Gothic and industrial architecture .

The interior of the church is painted in warm yellow tones.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1988 by the company Peter Vier Orgelbau ( Friesenheim ), who restored the instrument to its original state and built it into the parapet of the gallery . The abrasive loading -instrument has 20 registers , on two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
