The Excelsior is a German motor freight ship . The inland ship was built in 1987 as Jean Bossler for the entrepreneur Werner Ludwig Boßler and was his third inland trade ship with this ship name . The ship drove among others for the shipping company Lehnkering . In 1998, the then Jean Bossler was taken over into the fleet of the Götz shipping company under the name Excelsior . In 2007 the sensational Excelsior accident occurred on the Rhine .

history

The Jean Bossler , built as a container ship, was completed in 1987 as the most modern shipbuilding by the Philipp Ebert und Sons shipyard in Neckarsteinach for the shipping entrepreneur Werner Ludwig Boßler, who commissioned the inland waterway as his third ship with this name. It was dedicated to his father, the particular Johann Friedrich Boßler called "Jean", who had the first ship under the name Jean Bossler put into service together with his son.

In 1994 the ship was handed over to a company in the Netherlands and renamed Berdina in order to sail for this company until 1996. In 1996 the ship changed ownership and name again. It remained in the Netherlands until 1998 under the name Excelsior , which the motor ship carries to this day. Today it sails under the flag of the Götz shipping company.

In 2007 the Excelsior accident occurred on the Rhine under the flag of the Götz shipping company , in which the ship lost 32 containers . The wreck of the container ship led to the Rhine being closed to inland shipping for a long time .

transport

Inland waterways mainly operated on the Rhine and its tributaries. It was temporarily integrated into the fleet of the shipping company Lehnkering and transported various bulk goods for Lehnkering AG. For Ludwig und Jakob Götz KG, the inland waterway transports containers for various clients.
