Ferry connections Neckarsteinach – Neckargemünd

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neckarsteinach – Neckargemünd ferry connections have a long tradition. As early as 1404 they were mentioned in connection with the Schönau monastery . In 1803 they linked the towns of Neckarhäuserhof and Neckarhausen for the first time . In 1906 an additional private yaw ferry was created between Neckarsteinach and Dilsberg . The Neckar ferry connected the two states of Hesse and Baden with Neckarsteinach and Neckargemünd as well as the associated districts in which the ferry connections were scheduled . Today the Neckarhäuserhof-Neckarhausen ferry connects the states of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg .

history

For the year 1404 it is reported that the Cistercian Abbey in Schönau received an annual fee from the ferry in Neckarsteinach. Thus, the ferry service in Neckarsteinach has a history that goes back centuries. For the year 1459 a Neckar ferry between Neckarsteinach and Neckargemünd is mentioned, which connects both cities across the Neckar .

Yaw ferry between Neckarhausen and Neckarhäuserhof

From 1803 the ferry service between Neckarhäuserhof and Neckarhausen is mentioned. In 1812 the grand ducal government in Darmstadt set up a carriage ferry between Neckarhausen and Finsterbach. This was privately run by ten owners. In 1837, due to the increasing number of people and animals, a regular ferry with a permanent ferryman was put into service, which was operated by Johannes Krieger as a tenant. In 1853 a wire cable ferry, commissioned by Schiffsbau Jakob Seibert in Eberbach , followed, which replaced the outdated ferry system. For ferry operations, the year 1888 was characterized by the fact that the load of the increasingly heavy carts, the chain shipping and the inauguration of the Neckar Valley Railway led to the establishment of a yaw ferry. With the emergence of motor freight shipping and the construction of the lock in Neckarsteinach in 1933, a high-wire ferry was set up, which was made by Schiffswert Philipp Ebert & Sons in Neckarsteinach. With the incorporation of Neckarhausen into Neckarsteinach in 1971, Neckarhausen's shares in the local ferry to the city of Neckarsteinach were added. In 1978, Neckarsteinach's shares in the Neckarhausen-Neckarhäuserhof ferry facility were transferred to the Bergstrasse district, as the ferry was viewed as the continuation of the 205 district road. The connection between Neckarhausen and Neckarhäuserhof is currently in operation. In addition, a support association has been set up for the Neckarhausen-Neckarhäuserhof ferry.

Neckarsteinach-Dilsberg ferry service

Ferry house in Neckarsteinach

In 1906 another ferry system was set up, which was in Neckarsteinach and connected the city with the town of Dilsberg. The owner was the ferry operator Jakob Friedrich Boßler (1851–1927). Ferry owner Boßler was in charge of the ferry service in Neckarsteinach and ran his business from the city ferry house built in 1904.

On the part of the Grand Duchy of Baden , the Grand-Ducal Baden Ministry of the Interior in Karlsruhe and the Grand-Ducal Baden District Office in Heidelberg in 1906 gave him permission to operate the ferry service with a yaw ferry on the Baden side.

The approval of the ferry system on the part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse was also granted to Jakob Friedrich Boßler in 1906 and was granted by the Grand-Ducal Hessian Ministry of Finance in Darmstadt and the generous Hessian hydraulic engineering office in Worms .
