Fédération Internationale de Sambo

The Fédération Internationale de Sambo (FIAS) is the international federation for the martial arts Sambo . There are currently 75 national associations in five continental associations.

history

Sambo was represented by the Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA) until 1984 . In 1984 the Fédération Internationale de Sambo was founded, a world association of its own, to which 56 member associations already belonged. Fernando Compte became the first president . A year later, FIAS became a member of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and was officially included in the 1993 World Games program in the Netherlands . From 1985 FIAS also took over the organization and staging of the Sambo World Championships , which took place in Tehran for the first time in 1973 . The World Cup was also subordinated to FIAS. Vladimir Putin was President of FISA from 2005 to 2009 .

In 2006 the FIAS ratified the Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). A year later, FIAS was accepted into the Trim and Fitness International Sport for All Association (TAFISA). In 2010 the association took part in the World Martial Arts Games for the first time with Sambo. Since 2011 the association has had a representative at the location of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne . Two years later, at the endeavor of FIAS, Sambo was part of the Universiade program for the first time .
