Führich-Kreuzweg
A Führich Way of the Cross are panels of the Way of the Cross, which are more or less faithful copies of those made by Joseph von Führich (1800–1876) for the church on St. Lorenzberg in Prague (before 1836), the Johannes Nepomuk Church in Vienna - Leopoldstadt (1844 –46) and the Altlerchenfeld parish church in Vienna- Neubau (1854–61) depict the Stations of the Cross.
Emergence
In the summer months from 1844 to 1846, Joseph von Führich painted the Stations of the Cross in the Nepomuk Church, supported by his student Adam Vogler . The Stations of the Cross cycle consists of fourteen 240 × 185 cm large frescoes . He thus created the first monumental version of the popular popular piety theme.
distribution
The international distribution of these Stations of the Cross motifs can be explained by the fact that copperplate engravings were made of them and countless painters used them as templates for the Stations of the Cross. The artists of these copies are mostly unknown. The entire Stations of the Cross cycle was printed for the first time as early as 1847, and the Führich Stations of the Cross has been the most copied ever since.
The dog, which is shown in the original on station III, can provide a clue for the dating. Later considered unimportant, the animal was only adopted on the older copies.
