Forever single? (Original title: That Awkward Moment ) is an American comedy film directed by Tom Gormican from 2014 . The film is about three friends who decide to stay single together. Mikey is left by his wife Vera. In order to give him other thoughts, his two best friends Jason and Daniel make a pact with him to enjoy being single to the fullest and to no longer enter into any solid bonds. They wander through the clubs and bars looking for one-night stands . Then Jason meets Ellie and, to his surprise, develops feelings for her. Daniel enters into a relationship with their mutual friend, Chelsea, without his friends' knowledge. Mikey also allegedly gets to know a new partner, but the other two do not know that this is his ex-wife. The three friends now have to decide whether and how they can reconcile their new feelings with the self-imposed single existence.

Forever single? was initially released by What If It Barks Films under the title Are We Officially Dating? developed. Tom Gormican's screenplay was on the top unproduced screenplay list in 2010. In September 2013, the film title was finally changed to That Awkward Moment . Under the original title Are We Officially Dating? the film hit theaters in Australia and New Zealand. The film is distributed by Focus Features . The comedy film is Tom Gormican's directorial debut.

In August 2012, Zac Efron was announced as the first actor in the film. Miles Teller followed in October 2012 and Imogen Poots and Michael B. Jordan in November . The filming took place in November 2012 in New York City . The production cost is about eight million US dollars.

The premiere took place on January 27, 2014 in Los Angeles . The US theatrical release was on January 31, 2014. Global box office earnings as of April 14, 2014 totaled over $ 53 million, of which just over $ 26 million came from the United States alone. The film received mostly negative reviews.

Christoph Petersen from Filmstarts.de found that the film suffered “from an unimaginative staging”. However, he praised the "convincing leading actor trio and the polished dialogues". Moviejones complains that they try to combine "a bit of American Pie humor with clichéd romanticism, which doesn't really work." Their overall judgment is that one cannot expect “more than average [...]” from the film. Stephen Holden of the New York Times finds the film annoying because it "tries [...] to outdo precursors like Hangover in disgusting humor", but is "just [...] just a mean, pointless sex comedy".

But there were also positive reviews. Amy Nicholson of the Los Angeles Times wrote that the film was "a surprisingly good bromance version of Sex and the City ."

The main actor Zac Efron won the award in the category Best Topless Appearance at the MTV Movie Awards 2014 .
