The FilmFernsehFonds Bayern GmbH (FFF Bayern) is a company for the promotion of the media in Bavaria , based in Munich .

The FFF Bayern sees it as its task to carry out quantitative and high quality film funding in Bavaria and to offer additional services for the film industry. This is intended to promote the long-standing film and television landscape in Bavaria.

history

The fund was founded on March 1st, 1996 at the Bavarian Film Center Geiselgasteig. The first president and managing director was Herbert Huber, the chairman of the supervisory board was minister of education, Hans Zehetmair. In 1997 the information office for film, which was active as a journalist for the media location Bavaria, and the location office were integrated into the FFF as independent departments.

In 1999 the Bavarian State Chancellery took over responsibility for the film. Minister of State Erwin Huber became Chairman of the FFF Supervisory Board. This year, the FFF took part in the Munich Media Days for the first time and awarded prizes at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival and the Regensburg Short Film Week. The HypoVereinsbank , Bayerische Landesbank , Reuschelbank and LfA Förderbank Bayern have merged to form the Bayerischer Bankenfonds (BBF).

Since 2011 Prof. Dr. Klaus Schaefer takes over the FFF management. Dorothee Erpenstein took over the management in 2018.

The location pilot project was signed with Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2002 as part of the Munich Media Days and the foundation stone for the “Location Network Bavaria” was laid.

In 2003 the first film agreement was signed in Québec between the regional film funding SODEC and the FFF Bayern.

On July 1, 2004, the gotoBavaria department responsible for media topics was integrated into the FFF. In 2005, the FFF Bayern presented its film journalism award for the first time at the Munich Film Festival .

In September 2006 FFF received a new logo and a new corporate design.

In 2009, the organization was the first German state funding to provide financial support for the digitization of film theaters and to launch a special program to upgrade to digital projection technology and to promote culturally and educationally demanding games.

Since the summer of 2009, the Bavarian Bank Fund has also been involved in the form of guarantees for young films. A guarantee of a maximum of 135,000 euros per project can be applied for for productions by students and graduates of the HFF Munich .

Shareholder

The shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria , the Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (BLM), Bayerischer Rundfunk , ZDF and the private television providers ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL .

The FFF Allocation Committee decides on the allocation of funds five times a year. A separate committee, which meets twice a year, decides on game funding. The so-called Bavaria Effect applies to production and distribution funding. Accordingly, applicants for production funding must spend at least 1.5 times the loan amount granted in Bavaria. In the case of lending funding, at least the loan amount granted must be spent.

Bavarian Banking Fund (BBF)

The Bavarian Banking Fund (BBF) was founded in 2000 as a supplementary financing instrument, in which four large banking institutions work together. With a financial volume of 20 million euros, the BBF also finances FFF-funded films in production and distribution.

Film theater funding

The promotion of Bavarian film theaters by the FFF Bayern is intended to help maintain a nationwide cinema structure in Bavaria and to ensure the quality of programs both in the cinemas in the countryside and in the big cities. The following measures are available:

FFF Film Commission Bavaria

The Film Commission Bayern supports domestic and foreign production companies with filming in Bavaria and mediates in finding locations and obtaining filming permits. In addition, the Film Commission Bayern advertises and provides information for Bavaria as a production location at international trade fairs and festivals. The most important initiatives of the Film Commission Bayern include the Location Network Bavaria and the publication "Film Production Manual - Munich and Bavaria". The first German film commissioner was Gabriele Pfennigsdorf in 1989 in Munich; meanwhile she is the deputy managing director of the FFF.

Cluster audiovisual media / media network Bavaria

In order to strengthen and network Bavaria as a media location, the Audiovisual Media (CAM) cluster was located at FFF Bayern from 2006 to 2012. The tasks of the cluster consisted of linking the audiovisual industry segments through strategically oriented network activities and connecting them with other industries and clusters. The Bavarian Media Network was founded in January 2013 as a successor institution. The Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology , the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation , the Bavarian State Center for New Media , the MedienCampus Bayern and the FFF Bayern are founding members. The Association of Bavarian Economy was added later .
