Fairtiq ( spelling FAIRTIQ ) is a mobile app from the Swiss start-up of the same name, which enables electronic tickets for public transport in Switzerland , Liechtenstein , Vorarlberg , Linz , Göttingen , Halle (Saale), Central Thuringia, Aschaffenburg and Flensburg to be sent to solve.

history

Fairtiq was launched on April 28, 2016 in the Passepartout , Frimobil and Engadin Mobil tariff associations . Fairtiq has been valid throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein since March 2018. Since October 2018, SBB has been testing the Fairtiq system under the name EasyRide in the “SBB Preview” app.

After the start-up in London won the Billion Journey Project of the transport company Go-Ahead , Fairtiq will develop solutions for the public transport system in Great Britain with Go-Ahead .

In 2019, the LINZ AG lines were added in the core zone Linz as well as in Göttingen and Halle (Saale) (tariff zone 210).

Since March 2020, an entire transport association in Germany can be used with Fairtiq for the first time. The Verkehrsverbund Mittelthüringen used the corona-related closings of ticket sales by the driver to introduce the planned system early.

From July 2020 it was possible to buy tickets within the city of Aschaffenburg and in the Aktiv-Bus area in Flensburg.

The company, founded in 2016 by CEO Gian-Mattia Schucan, employs 66 people and cooperates with 31 partner companies.

functionality

The passenger checks in by swiping in the app when getting into a public transport vehicle and checks out again when getting off at the destination stop . The app uses GPS tracking in the smartphone to calculate the fare according to the best price principle for individuals (and, depending on the tariff, several children up to six years of age) and any number of changes to the destination. If you drive several trips on the same day, the maximum day ticket price will be charged. If you forget to check out when you leave the vehicle, you will receive a reminder.

You can store existing subscriptions with tariff associations and discount entitlements (e.g. half-fare card ). So far, there has been no automatic conversion of individual tickets into a subscription for frequent users, if this would be cheaper.

Payment is made daily after public transport in Switzerland has closed by means of credit cards , REKA, PostFinance Card and TWINT . Originally, the payment system was Easypay the Swisscom offered, due to high costs but this is set at 30 September 2020th In Germany and Austria, payment in July 2020 is only possible with credit card (VISA / Mastercard) or PayPal .

Scope

Fairtiq is valid in the entire GA route network in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. You can buy tickets beyond the boundaries of the tariff associations. Class changes and night surcharges are not included . Since April 2019, ship connections can be billed via Fairtiq. In Linz, Fairtiq is only valid for buses and trams operated by LINZ AG in the Linz core zone.

In some route networks, a bonus of 5% is credited to the monthly bill, provided that Fairtiq has been used at least 5 times. Fairtiq vmobil

Fairtiq vmobil is valid in the Vorarlberg transport network and across borders in Liechtenstein. It is not yet possible to buy tickets from Vorarlberg to Switzerland or vice versa. In addition to the credit card, PayPal is also accepted for payment in this app .

Fairtiq in Linz

Since August 12, 2019, Fairtiq has also been in effect in the Linz core zone of LINZ AG (LINZ LINIEN GmbH division). Line 4 can only be used as far as the Traun intersection with Fairtiq. For underground stops, Linz AG advises starting Fairtiq outside the station. As in Vorarlberg, PayPal is accepted in addition to VISA and MasterCard .
