Falko Weißpflog (* 1954 in Pleißa ) is a former German ski jumper .
Career
Falko Weißpflog completed his first jumps on the ski jumping facility in Gussgrund, which is part of the Rabensteiner Forest near Grüna . Weisspflog was internationally successful especially from 1976 to 1980. His greatest successes include the bronze medal on the large hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 and the ski flying world record of 174 meters on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill in Oberstdorf in 1976 . Weißpflog was initially active for his home company sports club Motor Grüna , after he had convinced the officials with good performances, he started from 1973 like his brother Roland for the SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal , for which Jens Weißflog later also celebrated successes.
Because of his long jumps, Falko Weißpflog was also known as a falcon . The Austrian musician Johann Hölzel was fascinated by Weißpflog and thereupon chose his stage name Falco , as he announced in the TV show “ Outsider front runner ”.
