course

The springs of the Farnbach drain the south-western slope of the main ridge of the Thuringian Forest on the Rennsteig from Bommelhauck (685 m) over the Großer Weißenberg (742 m) to the Rennwegskopf (730 m) and are located below the holiday property and restaurant Krätzersrasen . The Farnbach flows through the Thuringian Valley . In Breitungen, the Farnbach is partially canalized.

particularities

Near the ford with the Gleisdreieck - Hohe Klinge hiking trail , below Atterode , the Farnbach seepage occurs . In this karst area in the Liebenstein Zechstein belt , hydraulic connections to the Altensteiner Höhlenbach , the beverage hole and the sinkhole water could be verified. The Farnbach falls completely dry in places, the extensive valley becomes a narrow gorge with a trickle below the Katzenstein . Only below Bairodas does a constantly water-carrying stream exist again.

The Farnbach between the infiltration point and Bairoda only carries water when there is extremely heavy rainfall , usually with restrictions for the population.

The hamlet of Farnbach in Breitungen, through which the brook flows, got its name from the brook.
