geography

course

The source of the Fautenbach lies between Oberkirch and Ottenhöfen on the northeast slope of the Hörnle in the northern Black Forest at an altitude of approx. 656  m above sea level. NN . Here it rises in a forest, which it leaves very quickly and first flows north over the meadows of the Schwend . Shortly before it flows through the village of Waldulm , the Zinelbach flow into it from the right and the Mühlenbach from the left. In the village, the Oberbergbach and the Stümelbach meet the Fautenbach from the left.

Between Waldulm and the town of Kappelrodeck, it changes its direction of flow to the northwest along state road 87 and shortly afterwards the Pfaffenbach flows into it coming from the left. Above the town of Fautenbach named after the river, the Fautenbach flows through the flood retention basin Fautenbach, which is not permanently dammed, with a normal flood retention volume of 254,000 cubic meters. In Fautenbach it crosses under the federal highway 3 as well as the Rhine Valley Railway . After leaving the village, it flows through the Petersee under the federal motorway 5 . Shortly afterwards the Neugraben and Muhrgraben flow into the Fautenbach from the left, whereupon it flows into the Acher from the left.

There are two mouths into the Acher: The Acher flood canal is separated from the Acher around 20 meters below the upper mouth . From Fautenbach branches shortly before its opening of the 100-meter-long Fautenbachkanal from which passes under the Acher flood channel and below which turn also from the left in the then as Feldbach flows designated Acher.
