Ferdi Hartung

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ferdi Hartung (born January 19, 1931 in Saarbrücken-Malstatt ; † May 11, 2014 in Spiesen-Elversberg ) was a German sports photographer .

Life

Ferdi Hartung originally learned the trade of druggist ; photography was part of the training. Still rated “ poor ” in the degree certificate in the subject “ photography ” , Hartung tried his luck in photography. He first completed an internship in a photo studio in Saarbrücken and then began to photograph the games of 1. FC Saarbrücken and the Saarland national soccer team , which existed from 1950 to 1956. After some practice, he introduced himself to the sports editorial offices in Saarland and he began to earn his living there. In 1955 he founded the Hartung photo agency.

At his first soccer World Cup in Switzerland in 1954 , Hartung took photos without accreditation and was arrested after sneaking into the stadium. At this tournament, however, he also took a successful snapshot : At the final between Germany and Hungary , he photographed a jubilee pose by Fritz Walter , which helped him achieve his breakthrough. In 1963 he took another sensational photo, which became known as the “football ballet” and which in 2003 was voted the best picture in 40 years of the Bundesliga. The picture showed Achim Melcher and Erich Leist from Borussia Neunkirchen during an away game in a duel with Timo Konietzka from Borussia Dortmund , who kick synchronously after the ball. In fact, the award was flawed: the picture was actually taken during the last German finals in 1962/63, several months before the Bundesliga was founded .

Hartung photographed well into old age. With the exception of the Soccer World Cup in 1962 and the Soccer World Cup in 1990 , he never missed a World Cup as a photographer between 1954 and 1994.

He spent his last months in a retirement home in Spiesen-Elversberg, where he passed away on May 11, 2014 after a long illness.

reception

Photos by Hartungs have been voted Sports Photo of the Year by the Association of German Sports Journalists six times . In 1977 he took first place in the photo competition of the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS) with a picture of goalkeeper Dieter Ferner . He was also an honorary laureate of the Saarland Sports Journalists Association .

In 2007 the biography Photo: Hartung - The best of 50 years of sports photography by Dieter Gräbner was published . In 2012 the exhibition was dedicated to 90 minutes: With Ferdi Hartung in the Bundesliga of the Saarbrücken State Archives and the Saar History Museum, Hartung's works. Three illustrated books were to be published to accompany his work for Borussia Neunkirchen, 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC 08 Homburg . Volume 1 was published in 2012 about Borussia Neunkirchen and in 2014 part 2 about 1. FC Saarbrücken.
