The Feuerspitze is a 2852 meter high mountain in the Lechtal Alps , in the Austrian state of Tyrol . Due to its exposed location and easy ascent, it is a popular panoramic mountain for alpine hikers and ski mountaineers .

Location and surroundings

The mountain is about seven kilometers as the crow flies southeast of Holzgau in the Lechtal . At the foot of its north face is the Fallenbacherferner , which is only an insignificant glacier remnant due to the current glacier melt. Adjacent peaks are in the north, separated by the Fallenbacherjoch (2753 m), the Holzgauer Wetterspitze with 2895 meters, in the east the Fallenbacherturm (2704 m) and, separated by the Gamskarlscharte (2551 m), the 2723 meter high Fallenbacherspitze . In the south is the front lake peak at 2889 meters, separated by the Stierlahnzugjoch (2596 m). To the southwest, the Feuerspitze falls off in a large-scale rubble roof to the Kaisertal .

geology

To the north, the Feuerspitze consists of a steep, but brittle wall, which consists of striking red layers of chert ( radiolarite ) from the Upper Doggers and the Lower Malms , which also gave the mountain its name. This rock contains microfossils such as radiolarian skeletons and spongy needles and is very brittle. There is an increased risk of falling rocks on the climbing tours through this wall .

Bases and tours

The Simmshütte at 2004 meters at the end of the Sulzeltal valley serves as a base for ascent of the Feuerspitze on the normal route , the easiest ascent . In three and a half hours, the summit can be reached from the south without difficulty via a steep path. From the hut, the path initially leads south, bypassing the Feuerspitze to the west to the Stierlahnzugjoch . Then we continue north to the summit. The ascents from Kaisers and the Alperschontal can also be done as ski tours .
