The Halle (Saale) fire brigade is assigned to Office 37.6 (Fire, Disaster Control and Rescue Service) of the city of Halle (Saale) , Saxony-Anhalt . It was founded in 1886 and comprises the specialist areas of fire brigade , civil and disaster control and the rescue service .

history

The first volunteer fire brigade in Halle an der Saale was founded on September 28, 1886. Due to his efforts to found the volunteer fire brigade , the gymnast, politician and scientist Otto Ule became the first fire chief in the city of Halle. The fire brigade that was founded was a gymnast fire brigade .

Unlike in many other places, the volunteer fire brigade in Halle was able to rely on a quick fire water supply from hydrants right from the start, since the municipal waterworks were also put into operation in the year the volunteer fire brigade was founded. Due to the rapid industrialization , the city of Halle is expanding rapidly, which brought the volunteer fire brigade to their limits towards the end of the 1880s. The city's magistrate decided to establish a permanent barracked professional fire brigade. This professional fire brigade was founded on April 1, 1889 with a team of seven chief fire fighters and six fire fighters. Despite the professional fire brigade, a volunteer fire brigade continued to exist. The first accommodation of the professional fire brigade was in the former stables of the old town hall. In the initial phase, the professional fire brigade did not have its own draft horses for fire engines . During the day you borrowed horses at the property on the market cabs and even at night the cab driver had put their horses. This only changed when a contract was signed with the horse-drawn tram. The horse-drawn tram undertakes to purchase draft horses for the fire brigade.

One of the innovations that enabled early fire fighting was the fire telegraph system . This made it possible to precisely determine the location of the fire and to fight many fires while they were starting. As a result, large fires in several houses became increasingly rare. The so-called loud alarm was also abolished in the city through the fire telegraph system . The last use of the fire bell was on January 27, 1899, during the major fire in the Lindner factory in Große Steinstraße.

As early as the early 1890s, it became apparent that the fire station on the market was no longer sufficient for the requirements of the professional fire brigade . A new guard was built in Margarethenstrasse, today Ludwig-Stur-Strasse, at a cost of around 170,000 marks . In addition to the rooms for the professional fire department, the fire station also included rooms for a police station and apartments for fire department officers . The professional fire brigade moved into the new guard on July 16, 1892. In addition to this guard, there were the two fire stations of the volunteer fire brigade, one in Blücherstrasse and the other in Glauchaer Strasse near the waterworks.

From 1901, the area of responsibility of the professional fire brigade expanded to include ambulance, as the city procured a horse-drawn ambulance. As Halle continued to expand, the fire station on Margarethenstrasse was soon no longer enough to get to any point in the city quickly. So they started planning two more fire stations, one in the north of the city and one in the south. Due to several large fires, the need for the new fire stations became more and more obvious and planning was accelerated in order to be able to start building the fire stations quickly. On October 28, 1908, the fire station south at Liebenauer Strasse 123 could be moved into. The fire station south was one of the most modern of its kind in Europe and is now a listed building .

Professional fire brigade

The professional fire brigade in Halle (Saale) has two fire stations , one the main station and the other the south station. Construction of a third fire station began in 2020 and is scheduled to go into operation in 2022. The city has a total of 157 professional fire fighters in both locations, each with 3 guard departments.

Kanena was also incorporated into the city of Halle (Saale) in 1950. The Kanena volunteer fire brigade has therefore also been part of the Halle (Saale) volunteer fire brigade. Neustadt

The Halle-Neustadt volunteer fire brigade was founded on May 16, 1973 as the company fire brigade of the state- owned municipal building management company. It is the youngest volunteer fire brigade in the city of Halle (Saale). It was not until 1979 that the company fire brigade was recognized as a public fire brigade and was named Freiwillige Feuerwehr Halle-Neustadt. However, there was already a Halle-Neustadt volunteer fire brigade, the former Passendorf volunteer fire brigade. It was therefore decided to designate the Passendorfer as command post I and the former company fire brigade as command post II. Both volunteer fire brigades were still independent of each other. This changed in 1988 when both command posts were put under joint management. Due to various problems, the two weirs were separated again in 1990 and the Passendorfer was given the name Halle-Passendorf volunteer fire department. The Halle-Neustadt volunteer fire brigade has a special task of supplying water over long distances, for which it has a fire fighting group vehicle 16/12, a portable fire pump with water and a portable fire pump trailer . In addition, the volunteer fire brigade also has a field kitchen trailer .

Rivet life

The Nietleben Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in a major fire on December 30, 1913 in the Portland cement factory. Since Nietleben did not have its own volunteer fire brigade, the community had to ask the Passendorf volunteer fire brigade for help. A fire premium of 40 marks in fees was due for this help . The community representatives found this quite expensive and so it came about that on January 24th, 1914 the Nietleben volunteer fire brigade was founded. Nietleben was also one of the communities that were incorporated into the city of Halle (Saale) in 1950. Therefore, the volunteer fire department of the former independent community has been part of the Halle (Saale) volunteer fire department since 1950. The vehicle fleet includes a fire fighting group vehicle 8/6 and a crew transport vehicle , as well as a roll-off container MANV with a treatment station 50 . The volunteer fire brigades Ammendorf, Büschdorf, Lettin and Nietleben were assigned the special task of mass casualties (MANV).

Passendorf

On October 18, 1875, the mayor of Passendorf , Gustav Teichmann, invited to a founding meeting. 42 residents accepted the invitation. Together with the mayor founded 39 of the 42 inhabitants volunteer fire Passendorf and chose the mayor for the first weir conductor . This makes it the oldest fire brigade in Halle (Saale). In 1950 Passendorf was incorporated into the city of Halle (Saale). On July 15, 1965, the foundation stone of Halle-West, today Halle-Neustadt, was laid. Passendorf was demolished for the expansion of Halle-West, which uprooted the volunteer fire brigade. In 1971 the Passendorf volunteer fire brigade moved together with the professional fire brigade in a fire station in Halle-Neustadt, which led to a drastic reduction in the number of volunteer fire services. To mark the 100th anniversary of the volunteer fire brigade, it was named Halle-Neustadt-Passendorf, as the old name no longer seemed up to date. In the following years the name of the Passendorf was also lost, but this led to a problem in 1979. The company fire brigade of the state- owned municipal building management company was recognized as a public fire brigade and, due to its location, was also given the name Halle-Neustadt volunteer fire brigade. In order to keep the two volunteer fire brigades apart, the Passendorfer was designated as command post I and the former company fire brigade as command post II. Both volunteer fire brigades were still independent of each other. This changed in 1988 when both command posts were put under joint management. Due to various problems, the two fire departments were separated again in 1990, and the Passendorfer was given the name Freiwillige Feuerwehr Halle-Passendorf.

The volunteer fire station-Passendorf now has a Löschgruppenfahrzeug 6.8, a portable pump vehicle with water and a crew transport vehicle .

The vehicle fleet includes an emergency fire fighting group vehicle 20 and an equipment vehicle for decontamination personnel .
