action

Luke Davenport, the son of the President of the United States , is not a pleasant person, because he not only annoys the Secret Service agent Woods, who is responsible for his security , he also does not like being exhibited for public media appearances, which is why he does one shopping together with his mother Linda, the first lady , and a bunch of reporters with his bare bum. The fact that Woods previously grabbed Luke's hard work ensures that he loses his job and Sam Simms becomes his new bodyguard. Because as idiosyncratic as he interprets his role in the Secret Service, he is so unwilling to play the butler for Luke, which is why both initially clash. But that doesn't change the fact that Simms continues to do his job. Because he not only protects Luke with a lie when the Secret Service mistakenly mistook Luke for an intruder while walking the dog, he also tries to protect him in a fight in his new high school against the rowdy Rob. Unfortunately, he's too late there, so that Luke catches a bloody nose.

At home in the White House , Luke first has to hear that he will not only be under house arrest for the next month, but will also have to do without his parents, as they will be traveling. This annoys him so much that he retreats into the secret corridors of the White House, where Simms finds him crying. Luke then tells Simms what a sad life he leads, without friends, without freedom, without parents and also without girls like his classmate Katie, whom he finds beautiful. The only fun he has left is occasionally chatting as a Viperboy over the Internet with strangers like Mongoose12 . So Simms makes sure that Luke can sneak out of the White House and takes him to his old gym, where he teaches him boxing. This not only strengthens the friendship between Luke and Simms, but also Luke's self-confidence.

And the parents notice that when they return home after four weeks. They don't know what Simms did to their son, but thank you for it. And Luke also thanks Simms after he finally managed to speak to Katie and invite her to the dance evening thanks to his help. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to come to that, because a possible bombing at the White House has been subject to a curfew, which could result in Luke's dance evening failing. But here, too, Simms knows advice by smuggling Luke out again and using his computer program to keep the appearance that Luke is still in his room. But this program, which repeatedly reproduces some of Luke's voice recordings, is manipulated by his snake, which sneaks around on the computer keyboard, in such a way that the whole dizziness is exposed. While Luke and Katie are arm in arm on the dance floor, the Secret Service disrupts the party and drags Luke home again.

As punishment, Luke is again house arrested, while Simms is fired. When Luke then chats alone with Mongoose12 again , he promises to meet him in the mall. Luke breaks out and manages to get the Secret Service agents to pursue something wrong, so he can walk to the agreed meeting point in peace. Only Simms knows roughly where Luke is. However, he does not manage to prevent Woods from taking Luke hostage in order to blackmail himself into being reinstated with the Secret Service. Although he can negotiate with him and get the boy free in the fight, but since Woods still had a second weapon, Simms has to intercept another bullet for Luke. As a result, Simms is later celebrated as a hero and suggested for the best position in the Secret Service. But he refuses, because he would rather stay with Luke.

criticism

"The story of the spoiled, parental love-deprived child, which shines through in the background, is provided with well-known comedy set pieces and moments of tension that do not form a staged unity, so that even some of the dramatic cabinet pieces of the black main actor run into the void."
