Fleinsee / Altluneberger See is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxon villages of Wehdel and Geesteneth in the unified municipality of Schiffdorf and the villages of Köhlen and Ringstedt in the unified municipality of Geestland in the district of Cuxhaven . The nature reserve was incorporated into the " Geesteniederung " nature reserve, which was newly designated in September 2013 .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 157 was 150 hectares in size. A large part of it was part of the FFH area "Low Geeste and Grove". In the south it bordered on the nature reserve “ Im Gliesch ”, which has also become part of the “Geesteniederung” nature reserve . The area was protected since February 2nd, 1988. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Cuxhaven.
The former nature reserve is located east of Bremerhaven between Altluneberg , Köhlen and Geesteneth. It placed part of the diked Geeste lowlands with the Geeste and the adjacent reed and grassland areas as well as the mouth of the Scheidebach as the right tributary of the Geeste under protection. The lakes that formerly existed in the estuary area and gave their name to the former nature reserve have silted up or dried up in the course of the expansion of the Geeste in 1961.
The grassland areas are predominantly used extensively, some of the areas are fallow. By removing the walling of the Geeste, they can flood during high water. The Geeste can develop naturally in the protected area.
