history

Wehdel belonged to Börde Beverstedt around 1500 and was parish in the parish of the same name at the same time. Around 1768 the village also belonged to the Beverstedt judicial district. Even during the short French period , Wehdel was connected to Beverstedt because the town was assigned to the Ringstedt municipality in the canton of Beverstedt. From 1851 to 1859 there was again a membership in the Beverstedt office and from 1859 to 1885 in the Lehe office. In 1885 the village belonged to the Geestemünde district and from 1932 to the Wesermünde and Cuxhaven districts. The rural community of Wehdel was formed in 1840 and the district of the same name 36 years later. On April 4, 1967, the Altluneberg community lost its political independence and became part of the Wehdel community. In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , the municipality was to remain independent as a member municipality and therefore form a new joint municipality with Frelsdorf , Köhlen , Wollingst and Geesteneth , but this did not happen due to the lack of local interest. Therefore, Wehdel was assigned to the territorial reform that took place on March 1, 1974, the new unit municipality Schiffdorf and the village of the same name was formed.

The local caretaker is Wolfgang Lehmann.

Wehdel coat of arms
Blasonierung : " Split , in front silver a half green oak branch with leaves and fruit on the gap behind in red a silver sign foot in the cut-wave , twice divided surmounted by a silver crenellated tower with open gate and black Fallgitter ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The oak branch recalls the interpretation of the place name as a village on the forest, the wave-cut shield base on the Silbersee and the Zinnenturm on the legend of a castle that has sunk in the Silbersee.
